A2000 - TF536 TERRIBLEFIRE TURBO BOARD IDE - Slow boot
« on: September 13, 2022, 02:48:29 PM »
Hi

My A1500 / 2000 have a few mods. I love it to bits but the main issue is slow booting time. From Cold it 2minute 30 seconds and averaging 1 minute 40 seconds from a reset.

First installing the TF536 with the IDE to SD card reading hard drive that came with the computer it was taking the best part of 6-5 minutes to start with a 1.5 meg DH0 read speed. It was painfully slow to open drawers, copy ect. (worse that the HARDFRAME SCSI and 50 meg hard drive that came with the unit and KS1.3)

Once adding to the end of startup-sequence CPU FASTROM BURST  >NIL: The improvement was night and day with a DH0 read speed for 4.5-5meg. (No MMU in user-startup)

But the start up speed is still rather slow, I get the TF colour flash then its just a black screen till it boots, any idea on how to improve this?

Regards

Barry

maybe a timeout issue ? TF is maybe looking for something which is not present and does nothing until until the timeout is reached.

pure guess since this kind of thing also happened on my X-5000 after addition of a SATA PCI card.

Boot without startup-sequence, is that also super slow? If not, enter "set echo on" and "execute s:startup-sequence" and find what it hangs on.

I have same issue with slow boot. Terrible fire says it is because a FFS block size. Setting to 4096 block size would speed it up.

Wondering why this is this way with TF accelerators? Why this is not problem with other boards?

Hi Kolla

Give it a go, and nothing, just a long 2 minutes wait for the reset. I think maybe utri007 is right about the block size, I think mine is set at 1024 ( although not sure I am checking correctly).

Think I might have to live with it, luckily its a rather stable machine!

Just need to get better at making up my on HD card on the PC, my next project I guess for when it gets too cold to work on my cars outside!

Thanks
