If you do a soft reset after it locks up, does it subsequently lock up more quickly than it did the first time?

Also, please could you try booting with no startup-sequence and running something from the shell which will stress the CPU, for example a game or something. Just to rule out the possibility that a software problem is causing your issues.

The symptoms definitely point to a heat-related issue:

1. It happens sooner after rebooting (because it has already heated up)
2. It happens even with a clean WB disk (so is not software-related)
3. It seemed to improve after cleaning contacts and touching up solder points (which expand when hot, and may become flakey if they are already dirty/poorly soldered)

and most importantly

4. It went away when you put a fan on the CPU

I have never had an 030 (especially a Blizzard) which was unstable or needed cooling, so short of fitting a fan permanently I don't know what to suggest :-(
