amiga divorce
« on: August 13, 2003, 02:30:41 PM »
Well it used to be a beautiful relationship. Everyone together in an OS love-in. It used to be so good when those naughty PC and Macs were the only targets.   :-)

Now it's all gone wrong. Recrimination, arguments, fights, abuse with no-one admitting they might be wrong.  Trapped in an endless, repeating cycle of conflict, there can only be one solution. An amiga divorce.  :-(

Having drifted apart, without common interests any more, it's time to take the kids Peggy, Miggywon and little Arossy and go our own seperate ways. You know it's for the best .... in the long run.

Peggy being the bight kid, of dubious paternal origin...
Miggywon being the attractive, slightly slow kid...
Arossy being the rebel...

Divorce? How? We loan a lawyer and he writes
an agreement on which every Amigan has to sign?

Freak.

Ok if you want the simple and boring way.

It seems Inevitable that those who choose different solutions will be unable to stay in one community.  The community formally known as 'the amiga community' will naturally split and head off in different directions.

Why? What do you base that on?
I imagine that in the future amiga users will always mix with pegasos users, and aros users will mix with both of those also, and will share ideas, and help eachother, and much of the software is the same, and i can't see  a reason why they need to split, and some will have more than one option, and why do you say what you say?

Isn't Amigaworld evidence of fragmentation with its clear favoured status to the AmigaOne?

If you're looking for help for each solution, wouldn't you go to a source that can provide specialised help for that solution? Wasn't that was the reason Amiga.org and boards like it started? To provide the sort of specialised help that couldn't be found from general PC sources that concerntrated more and more on IBM compatibles and Macs.

In the IT industry haven't communities almost always formed around solutions, rather than solutions around communities.

Yeah but there's people like me who wouldn;t mind using either. Personally gonna wait for OS4 to ship and see how it does before I even consider buying one of those machines (nonetheless saving up for one)

Just ignore the Trolls who tell you that. They are the ones who need to grow up. there's no reason for anyone to leave.

IMO we need both general Amigoid sites (ie A.org, ANN) and more specialised ones (AW, MZ)

I'm sure that the platforms will seperate more as time goes on, but just remember that they are all very compatible with each other and will continue to be so untill MOS's QBox is more popular than the ABox and A2G is more popular on OS4.x than A1G (don't ask me about AROS's long term plans once they have a complete 3.x API).  Until then, people can program using OpenAmiga so everyone benefits.

I am personally shocked, horrified, dismayed at all the acrimony that goes on in this community.  You know it would be so much easier if everyone would agree with me and stop having their own opinions.
But, despite the fact, that that would be both easier and a lot more logical, I still have a soft spot in my heart for differing opinions.

You can tell, by the way that I don't try to call for the removal of people with differing opinions.  I know that's a subtle thing....common sense says, the way you show support for differing opinions is by never having an opinion....common sense isn't very sensical.

Now....where was I...oh yes, OS 4.

You know what, if they were to release OS 4 and
they were to release a new Amiga ONE at a decent
price point, I think it would be great.

Of course, until then, they haven't.

I think you're missing the point. I'm not saying anyone has to leave, just that as new communities form around delivered solutions they probably will.

It's merely an observation, not a threat.

Myself I like the idea of a harem !   :-P

Amiga, Mos, OS X, Mandrake, Debian, Mac OS   :-D

So even if you divorce you are not lonely !  :griping:

Dumped Solaris, NeXT, AROS (Not ready for prime time)

Killed the b*t*h Windows (3.1, 95, 98, 2k, XP) 5 times - definitely no electromony payments here ! :destroy:

And someday a larger harem - Amiga OS 4 and maybe AROS (ready for prime time)         :-)
