hard to beat dungeon master ?
« on: January 03, 2015, 10:28:29 PM »
Dear Amigans:

Many years ago I played dungeon master on my amiga, and was very happy with it.
I did not get far, though. Even though I did not use it, I was aware of a walkthru
manual, that shows you how to win the game.
Will it be hard to beat dungeon master, if I use the walkthru tutorial ?
I look forward to play this great amiga game again.

Its not hard. One thing you should do is keep practicing spellcasting as you go. Rest and cast again. The higher level you cast the more xp you get.
Try not to kill monsters with thrown objects. Take your time with melee weapons and build up your fighter levels.
A trick I'm using is to only take 2 party members at first that way I don't use up food quickly.
Don't be afraid to retreat, you might get mobbed and at Level 4 monsters there are monster generators.

Someone who considers Dungeon Master to be hard, obviously hasn't played Chaos Strikes Back.

hint: just hire all 4 players in the beginning, make your way to level 4 where there's an infinite food supply in form of screamers --> train... :hammer:

If you have a hard drive, you should be happier using meynaf's enhanced versions of Dungeon Master:

There is a Dungeon that is the same as the original Dungeon Master but HD installable and working 100% without copy protection. Some of his other Dungeons are fun also but I would stay away from the insane difficulty dungeon if you think the original Dungeon Master is difficult.

Yes, definitely the best version available for the Amiga. OS friendly with multi tasking. Requires a 68020+, some fastmem and Kickstart 3, though.

I beat Dungeon Master on the Atari ST way back when.  It was awesome, but I lost my save disk before I was able to import my characters into Chaos Strikes Back.

So a while back I had started up DM on my Amiga again, through WHDload.  Unfortunately I got to level 3, tried to save it, and it gave me an error that the files didn't have write enabled or something.  So I haven't gone back yet, but since I finally got my A4000 stable and running again, I'm going to do it :D

I love Dungeon Master, it's awesome.  I was not aware of meynaf's enhanced version.  I'll have to check those out!

The save disk eventually fails. I learnt to change to a second save disk after a couple of writes and give the previous one a full format before using it again.

I never played Dungeon Master.  I did all the SSI "Gold Box" games (Pool of Radiance, Curse of the Azure Bonds, Eye of the Beholder, etc.), and a ton of similar games on C64 and other platforms, but never DM.  Is this a stand-alone self-playable version here?  Or does it require the original disks or some other convoluted install scheme?

Everything needed to play is included although minor installation is necessary (there are several different dungeons) and note the requirements given by Thorham above.

I recommend starting with the DungeonMaster dungeon as it's what started it all and was one of the most advanced games of it's time. The level design and puzzles are excellent.

I also really like meynaf's dungeon where you start out solo to rescue your girlfriend and dog.
