I've never paid one thin dime for any of the 4.1 updates, Takemehomegrandma.

As for the USB problems with u3, if they were there I never hit 'em.  I just finished plugging in a brand new G 19 keyboard, G 9 mouse and a 8 GB USB key into my SAM 440ep system with zero issues in prep for installing u4.

And as a bonus, OS4 users can now use OS3! :)

How's that done? Under emulation? I was just wondering that about 30 minutes ago. :)

I would love an OS4 machine, now that it seems like they do everything I'd need.
Shame they're prohibitively expensive.

@gizmo350

Most of my 68K programs are system friendly and work just fine with OS4.  However, I have a few very old programs which require AmigaOS 3.1 and will not work with OS4.  They will however work with E-UAE (the Ubiquitous Amiga Emulator).  Some of the old games expect classic Amiga hardware, which is emulated by E-UAE.

The OS4/PPC version of E-UAE has been available for many years.  E-UAE is the same concept as WinUAE and Amiga Forever.  It allows a person to emulate a classic Amiga on newer hardware.  You require an Amiga Kickstart ROM and Workbench files, which are not included in the E-UAE package.

In my case, I have used E-UAE for several years to create an AmigaOS 3.1 system for a few very old programs which will not run on OS4.  When I launch E-UAE, a Workbench 3.1 Workbench Screen opens up ontop of my OS4 Workbench and I am able to run the old programs just as if I was using my old Amiga 2000HD.  This method has worked ok for me.

The RunInUAE package included with OS4 Update 4 automates many of the steps I currently do manually.  I have not tried this program yet..  I am assuming the Amiga Kickstart ROMs and Workbench files have been included with OS4 Update 4 to make it easier for people to use E-UAE and RunInUAE.  Many people still like to run older games.

Installed just fine in under 1 minute on a SAM 440ep running a 32 GB SSD/SATA hard disk.  Works well, no issues with the installation or the update itself.

Thanks Redfox! Well, without trying to go off topic too far, how do you load your 68K software from your old floppys onto your OS4 machine... or do you download (or create) ADFs? I have a lot of 68K productivity software on floppy that would be nice to use.

BTW, I can't even download the new OS4 update as Hyperion's website seems to have crashed! :( Probably from everyone trying to download the update at the same time!

And Microsoft would never dream of charging money for bug-fixes either, hence they wouldn't market the fact that they don't as a feature... ;)

Really?  They wouldn't market the fact?

Then what do you call this? http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/Understanding-Windows-automatic-updating

AmigaOS will have an Update 5 out in the new year.

Good to hear.

Are there any plans, in the future (AmigaOS4.2?), of incorporating something like AmiUpdate into the OS to implement minor buxfixes on the fly or is the plan to continue with these "batch" bugfixes for the foreseeable future?

Even if AmiUpdate was integrated into the OS, I don't think piecemeal updates would be a good idea.

Doing updates this way means that the OS can be tested as a whole, with all components at a specific version to make sure they work well together, and end users are at a baseline that has been specifically tested.

I agree with Xeron, the piecemeal approach would not be good.

However, I see a lot of value in an update app for OS4 that can simply grab the latest update off Hyperion's support site using your credentials on your account there.

But then again, simply logging on and grabbing a small LHA file isn't a hell of a lot of work, and it's not like there's a patch every 5 days or anything.
