The listing stated that he would sell it for the first $1800 right at the top of the description. He probably got offered that much within hours of listing it. It does sound like a very rare A4000T, maybe even rarer than the commodore ones. A motherboard with slots for 128mb of ram and an 060 processor card with slots for another 512mb. They didn't make very many of those.

Perhaps, but if he got his immediate offer of $1800, it would still be listed but as a Closed/Finished auction, and Ebay would not have sent out the email saying it was "REMOVED".

The ebay email implies that EBAY removed the listing, not the seller.

Maybe the previous auction winner claimed the machine?

edit:
Just checked my email and also received an email from Ebay. It actually stated the sellers account might have been misused / hacked... another auction for a quad-core Mac Pro was also cancelled.

Actually it would be interesting to put this to the test at one of the Amiga conventions.  I suspect it's one of people knowing what they are using and it affects what they think.

If you couldn't see the box you are running on, would you still know?  Assuming you don't run the emulator at insane speeds, of course....

As someone who uses WinUAE, Minimigs and real Amigas, all I can say is that you can "feel" the difference between emulation and the genuine article.

It's like asking someone why they want to drive a 1960's Jaguar instead of a 2011 model, when the new model is just so much faster and comfortable.  :)

Totally possible considering the amount the A4000T originally sold for. A few years ago, I would get a false second chance offer on almost any Amiga I bid on including one auction I won. Ebay made bidder's ID anonymous around that time to deal with that problem. This could be a new approach by the same sort of fraudsters.
A2500 owned since 1993 with A2630/DKB 2632, DKB Megachip, GVP EGS Spectrum, A2320 and GVP HC+8 on the inside and a DCTV on the outside. A4000D with CSPPC, Cybervision 64 and a Flicker Magic flicker fixer. A4000T Toaster Flyer & CSMKII. All systems completly retro and classic and mostly used to do geometic art as in my avatar.

It's just been listed again and it looks like a different seller from the original so it looks like fraud. I would say the scammers have mulitple accounts that have been hijacked and saw how much the A4000T sold for and are trying to use hijacked accounts to fraudulently list it. I already reported it to eBay but their report form doesn't list fraudulent listings as a reason to report.

Nice machine, but $4k???? seriously someone (or some people) have way too much unwanted cash.  Wish I had that money to throw on an Amiga :)

I hope the legitimate seller noticed something wrong with his listings. It was an Ebay store  specialized in golf items. I reported it as something like wrong location. Amazing that you can't just report an item as suspected fraud. I only check new amiga items about once or twice a day and they could have listed it several times in the last few days with different sellers. It lasted about an hour this time. The listing for the original auction for $4000 is still online.

Sold to some guy from Nigeria who will send him a cheque for $10,000, ask him to deduct the $4,000 and then send him the Amiga plus the other $6,000 to an address in Florida.  ;)

Listed again with a different seller. Lasted less than 10 minutes this time from the moment it popped up on my ebay search. The fraud is obvious. The fraudsters are using hacked ebay accounts of sellers with good feedback and using a cut and paste of the item description from the original listing. The after effect of getting such an outrageous price is some outrageous fraud.
