Yeah, I'm curious, too! :)

As to your sound question, have you learned about MorphOS's Mixer yet? It's in WBStartup by default. There's also the Volume sbar module (right click the screendepth gadget in the upper right of the Workbench screen to enable it).

I've tried the mixer app, the sbar volume control and the two setting apps in the setup. Nothing gets the audio jacked up :( It's so low I have to put my face up near the unit to hear it well. Maybe there is some open firmware trick I can do to mess with it? I'm learning the ropes with the SDK, i think one of the first apps I'm going to write for MorphOS is something to tweak the particulars of that machine, like being able to change briteness/contract, invoke the degauss, etc.

Strange issue. I wonder if it's something to do with hardware vs. software volume control? I remember seeing a bit about this when support for the Mini first came about. How are your volume settings under OSX? And AHI under MorphOS?

Something else I just thought of: purge the PRAM.

Not that I'd know. There's software volume control now and it works on my two minis just fine. And if I don't have speakers attached, internal speaker works here.

Startup sound volume can be controlled at least from OSX side with StartupSound.prefPane program... I've set it muted and it works even if you don't have OSX installed anymore.

Will any G$ mac mini work with morphos, like the 1.25ghz version or do the older version have unsposrted hardware.  Is it only the 1.42 and the silent uopgrade ones that work?

good news .  How easy hard is it to upgrade slower models with a bett GPU, memory , CPU, hard drive.

The 1.42 and 1.5ght versions are going for nearly £200 on ebay at moment.  Would it be worth buying a 1.25ghz version and upgrading in future.

Anyone using the slower versions, will I notice the diffference, should I bite the bullett and just but the silent upgrade version ?

GPU cannot be upgraded (all minis have Radeon 9200). Graphics memory and CPU upgrade require change of the motherboard, however CPU can be overclocked. System memory is easy to upgrade, maximum is 1GB (with single DDR ram stick). Hard drive is easy to upgrade, the maximum is the largest 2.5" PATA drive.

See here for details: Mac mini (PowerPC) Repair Manual

Overclocking is covered by this thread, especially post #10.
