Converting eMac to tower, overclocking, etc?
« on: June 26, 2010, 06:33:10 PM »
Not that I don't have enough projects I am working on or swimming in cash atm... But I am starting to think about what to do with this eMac, possibly at least, in the future.

As mentioned in another thread, people have done headless eMacs.

And some Mac people have overclocked 1.25Ghz eMac to 1.58Ghz.

So take a $40 eMac, gut it, put it in a tiny case (Minit ITX ?), upgrade the RAM to 2GB, overclock to 1.58Ghz and use an LCD monitor. There would be some labor involved, but the cost of materials would still be pretty low, right?

Thoughts?
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

I'm with you. I love this Emac with MOS but I hate the screen. Some hacking is in order. I have a spare case, I'll see what I come up with and post pictures.

I thought that the 17" CRT of the eMac would actually be good for running EUAE on MorphOS to run old Classic Amiga games, but will have to wait for someone that has an eMac to report on that.  With the limited VRAM in the eMac, I think you should be careful with how large an LCD monitor you get to use with a converted eMac to Tower project.  I don't think I would try to use screen sizes larger than 1280x1074 if you plan to have multiple screens running simultaneously or you may end up running out of VRAM.

Edit:  I do run my 1.5GHz G4 MacMini w/64mb VRAM on my 20" widescreen Dell LCD monitor with a 1680x1050 resolution and haven't had any problems over the last several months.

How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

I re-cased a G3 iMac many years ago (and before decent digital cameras were affordable.)

...tupperware.

Might be a little trickier with an eMac, but anything's possible.

WOW! :) Ha ha ha!

See now if Amiga could have came up with a design like that years ago, they would have never went belly up! That's just gorgeous!
