I enjoyed the nostalgia and the hype (especially JS&A's comparison of Mac, Atari, and Amiga, March '86).
Remember when a buzz term like "virtual reality" made each reader imagine endless possibilities for the technology (July '93). Some of this stuff was tauted for years and influenced the way ppl spent their money. Then it was simply out of fashion or not practical, didn't live up to expectation, or was a hoax. Things like Bubble Memory and Hypertext. Actually, Hypertext propably came closest to reality on the Mac, but was over-hyped. I guess it could be argued that html is its offspring. Today, we have stuff like "computing in the cloud". I already never want to hear that term again.
The July '96 was a fun review of the competing technologies (and the forces that determine winners) to that time that didn't make the fashion cut. You know, I still have a few working Betamaxes, grin.
