Second batch of RGB to PAL or NTSC adapters coming soon...
« on: December 06, 2009, 10:54:54 AM »
Hi all,

Good news about the second batch of my RGB adapters!

"OUT OF STOCK! However, I will be making another batch of fifty (50) units! Yay!

I have finished the new design! I should have the new V2.0 adapters in stock in less than one month. The V2.0 adapter has more features and is more versatile than V1.0. Below is an image of the top layer silkscreen (component placement), to give you an idea of the new V2.0 adapter. There is also some useful info on the bottom silkscreen layer not shown here. You'll have to wait until I have V2.0 in stock for photos and full details :-)"

Hi Nathan,

This is good news, glad to know you're still commited to making these excellent projects.

Any plans to work on the 3 ROM Switcher Model you mentioned in my email [16 Oct 2009], *nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink* ;-D

All the best,

Paul.

He hee. I haven't even got out the data sheets of the switching ICs to look at adding a third ROM socket. I'm not sure if I will make them, as I have only had about 2-3 people ask about my ROM switchers since I sold the remaining stock to redrumloa. So I'm kinda scared to commit to the project :( It took me a while to sell what I had before. If it wasn't for red buying my stock, I may still have some left :-S I'm kinda poor now too (even more than before), so I have to be careful about what I spend my money on. My V1.0 RGB adapters sold out very quickly, and I've had quite a few people asking me about making another run (plus I still have over 50 right angle PCB mount 23 pin D-Subs left to use), so I thought I should make another batch :) I must confess...I was a bit naughty last week. Instead of studying (as I should have been), I was playing with my V2.0 adapter design and ordering components for it :D Mannn, I'm thinking I may be studying the wrong degree...perhaps I should go into electronics, since I love it so much!

@1985BMWK75

Do you prototype your designs at home first (ie: homebrew your own PCBs) or do you send off your artwork for manufacture right away? If so, what method do you use to homebrew your PCBs?

There's a good reason I ask, but I'll wait for a response first :P

I don't make my own PCB prototypes, which is probably not a good idea, as I don't have much free time etc. I do make breadboard prototypes to test concepts, such as my ROM switchers. I also made a prototype of my first RGB adapter, as I wanted to make sure it would work before having the PCBs made (even though the schematic to implement the AD724 is included in the datasheet :-P).

You should understand that I have barely read any book, or online tutorials, and I have never taken any courses on PCB or electronic design or theory - I am not much more than a novice. That probably shows on my PCB designs (butt ugly at times & non-standard), but they all work 100% :D I'm trying to improve each design, so I am now beginning to look at what pro's say. Which brings me to you. I looked at your profile and followed the link, as I suspected that you know a thing or two about PCB design and electronics. My suspicion was confirmed! Maybe I can pick your brain from time to time :-P I do have a PDF copy of Hill & Horowitz's The Art of Electronics, but have barely looked at it. I just don't have the time, and there is sooo much information. I'm not sure if there is anything about PCB design in there.

Please show mercy and try not to embarrass me in public forums - I would prefer to be humbled by PM or e-mail :-P

Nathan

My PCB's are supposed to be sent out on 18 December. They will be sent by courier, so it won't be long until I have them in stock :-)

Wooo hooo!

My PCBs were sent out by courier yesterday, and I have components for all 50 PCBs in stock, ready to solder.

With any luck, I'll have the PCBs on Friday December 18, otherwise Monday December 21 (I hope). Whenever they arrive, it's very close now :-D
