Any interest in a pre-release REV 3.9 Amiga 2000?
« on: July 28, 2009, 07:17:26 AM »
Hi guys!

Some of you may have been following my "newbie questions" thread about the A2000 I recently picked up.  The person I got my A2000 from also gave me another 2k machine, which turns out to be one of the early REV 3.9 models.  If my info is correct (with the understanding that I'm new to the Amiga world!), this would've been one of roughly 200 REV 3.9 machines built, which were given to dealers to promote the A2000 prior to its official release.

This particular machine is pretty bare - the case is in good shape (actually much better than I thought at first - it was just very dirty / dusty), and includes the REV 3.9 motherboard, a Commodore A25000 RAM card (2 meg), a Buster Tower, and not much else.  No power supply or floppy drive, and no drive bracket.  The mobo battery has leaked just a bit, but it doesn't seem to have reached or damaged the motherboard, CPU socket or anything else.  The sticker on the back of the case says that this one is serial number CA1009781.

I have a pet theory that since these machines weren't supposed to be sold to the public, it might have been cannibalized for parts by the dealer it was originally given to, but again, this is just a crackpot theory I came up with.  I have heard similar tales from the early days of Apple, but who really knows?

So, if anyone is interested in a trade, I'd be particularly interested in a Commodore 1080 or 1084 monitor, flicker-fixer board for the A2000, or a CPU accelerator board for the A2000.  Of course, if I'm way off-base regarding the value of this early-edition A2000, please feel free to let me know that as well.

Thanks!

Huxley

If the battery has leaked badly, that could render the Amiga unservicable. Have a look at it and clean it up / remove the battery before it ruins the motherboard.

Good luck.
