Time Bomb hits Office 2000 on Windows 2000 PCs
« on: April 18, 2003, 05:38:22 PM »
The Register warns that corporate users of Office 2000 Service Release 1 (SR-1) running on Win2k are being repeatedly hit by the Product Registration Wizard. Even filling in all the details doesn't prevent the same thing from happening again next time the App is started. It is claimed that the solution is to set PC clocks back two years.

Thats got to be the sneekiest way ever of getting people to upgrade their software. Boy am I glad I use star office for anything important on windows.

10-1 says that they don't exactly rush out a fix for this and that 2002 gets hit by the same "feature" in about a year.

Never did like M$'s crappy software.  This makes me dislike it even more.

;-) It is interesting to note that the '97 version doesn't share this headache.  It does everything that I need it to, so I bought it, secondhand, from some fellow who had "upgraded" to the 2000 version.

:-( I feel kinda sorry for him, now.

I have it on my W2K Laptop with no such trouble...

Though it is an MSDN Licensed copy with service pack 3 applied

This Link

This issue is old (sigh)...

I haven't encountered this particlar problem with
1. "Windows XP Professional (SP1)" and Office 2000.
2. "Windows Server 2003  Enterprise Edition"  and Office 2000.

No software has a monoply in regards to bugs.
