@amiga.org e-mail forwarding service
« on: April 06, 2002, 08:04:31 PM »
Updated: Several months ago, I mentioned that we were investigating the idea of offering a free @amiga.org e-mail forwarding service for all our validated users.  That service is now available and working.

From this moment -- keep in mind that we are still in testing mode -- if you are a validated user of Amiga.org, people can reach you by sending mail to username@amiga.org.

- Validated means that you have activated your account according to the e-mail we sent out when you created your account.  No validation, no e-mail forwarding.  It's that simple.

- The destination e-mail address is determined by that address given in your account.  If you do not have a valid e-mail account listed, you may not partake in e-mail forwarding.  No exceptions.  You do not have to show your address to the world from your account settings.

- Do NOT change your e-mail address in your account to username@amiga.org, as it will break your e-mail forwarding as well as disable your account. (since the address wouldn't be a valid contact address).

- We are working to enhance this service, to include a way for you to opt out of the e-mail forwarding, but that is not yet available.

Any questions, comments? donations to the cause?

Just did a test and ...

Yup it works ;-)  ;-)

Thanks Wayne.
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.
3. Check if it can actually be done.
4. Wait for someone else to do it.
5. Start working on it while giving out hillarious progress-reports.
6. Deny that you have ever announced it
7. Blame someone else

It fits quite well to the Amiga-situation

Can you name this one ?
1. Make an announcment.
2. Wait a while.

4. Wait for someone else to do it.

That is an easy one..."Only the Good Die Young" is the last track off of
Maiden's Seventh Son of a Seventh Son...

I actually have a pretty neat desktop theme going right now with
Maiden and the boing ball...

Personally, I think "Brave New World" is very fitting to Amiga and
therefore that's kind of my desktop theme :-)

Just sent a couple of emails to myself and it
worked perfectly.
Helps spread the Amiga name through the masses.

Features are always good and it does indeed work very fast.
But I'm somewhat confused - what is it good for?
I'm not trying to bring Wayne down here, I just
don't see any obvious advantage of routing e-mail
through here only to have it arrive at my normal
address.. Is it only to be able to have an e-mail
including the word 'amiga' or are there some other boon of using this system?
Considering the other exalted replies everyone seem to have
understood but me. Fill me in!

Advantage?  Dunno, guess it's like getting a free full color boing ball image on your business card  :-)

If you put your username@amiga.org address in the reply-to field of your client, you can also send mail as being from amiga.org....  Just a point of community spirit I'd suppose.

I am not sure, but I would think that one can use the xxx@amigaorg address and whenever
you change your  other email (like changing ISP) then you will still get your email and won't have
to update everyone of your new email address.
