WTB : G-Rex 4000D
« on: June 08, 2006, 09:52:52 PM »
Since it wasn't possible to fully repair my G-Rex 4000D (that was an expensive experience :-() I'm on the lookout for a G-Rex 4000D busboard, if someone is willing to sell. Must be fully working of course.

Reason for getting the G-Rex is to use MorphOS with Voodoo 3 instead of CVPPC, as well as trying out some of the features of G-Rex (tried with the G-Rex 1200, but that particular solution was much to hacky for my liking).

So, has anyone got one?

Speaking of Grex 1200...

I think that you do need a revision 2 card in order to get 100% stable operation. Since that big argument that we've had with LordSpider a while ago, I've had an opportunity to test several "working" rev 0 cards with Grex1200 and although they seemingly worked, every once in a while a crash would occur. Some were more tolerant than others, but all would produce crashes eventually.

A simple swap to a rev 2 card would make the crashes dissapear. I now understand why DCE suggested revision 2 cards, as even the "working" rev 0s weren't really reliable.

Well, I actually think that my current BPPC is a rev. 2 board, but I'm not going down the G-Rex 1200 route again, as mentioned before.

So hoping for a G-Rex 4000D, or the CVPPC takes it's place :-)

I hope so to, but I doubt it :-(

Well, MorphOS is pretty easy to get running on CSPPC + CVPPC, but on BPPC + BVPPC I'm having major troubles, so have given up on getting it to work.

More of a reason for getting a G-Rex 4000D :-)

hehe, yeah..BPPC & BVISION is what I've recently tried and I gave up pretty quick
If I had room for my Cybervision PPC in my Mirage Tower I would definately give MOS PPU another go
Seems like getting MOS running on BPPC/BVISION is matter of mixing the right hardware revisions and getting the right mixture of filesystem etc but who knows what the recipe for that?
