Amiga picnic anyone?

Ltstanfo and I were talking the other day about the good times we used to have at Amiga shows around the country (and Canada).

The simple fact is that these days, there simply isn't enough "business" to put on an American Amiga show.  You'd have a lot of trouble getting enough dealers and even enough people to show up (what with gas prices and all) to pay for the rented venue, setup, and all the assorted expenses.

That's when a strange idea hit me that rather than a full show, we could forego the dealers (unless some just wanted to come along) and have a "picnic" or better said, a two-day "gettogether" like Amiga Atlanta used to do about 10 years ago.

To that end, due to my job, I couldn't organize such an event anywhere but here in Huntsville, but wanted to gauge the possible interest from you guys to see how many of you would be interested/able to make it in for such an event if given enough time to plan (say having it in August / September, or even October)???

If you're interested, pop out your ideas for what we might do and things we might consider.  Hey.. I've never put together such a thing before, so I need all the pointers / ideas I can get.

Maybe if we can get 200+ of you to come along and drop in a few bucks, we could rent out the local theater for an hour and watch the deathbed vigil.. :) Of course, I don't know how much that'd really cost, but it's an idea...  What's yours?

Wayne,
Count me in as by the grace of God I should be local by then:-)

We could have games, like pin the tail on the D**master! jk ;-)  But seriously could be fun. Everyone pitch in a little bit, maybe get a resturant to cater(bbq?)?
Someone has to state the obvious and that someone is me!

Man, that sounds like fun but I swore to myself I wouldn't drive anywhere near Alabama for the next few years!  The wife and I were down in the Atlanta area recently for a wedding and while we were there, we got into an accident.  I had to drive back home in a rental and drive back to GA to pick up my car when it was fixed.  Then on the way home I had to dodge all those wonderful tornados north of Birmingham.... ugh :)

It would be great to finally meet some of the people here! I live just north of Washington D.C., so this would be long run for me, but I would sure give it a try.

I would be interested in attending such an event.  Nobody I know around here has any current interest in Amigas or Commodore hardware at all.  It would be really neat to meet some people who shared some of those interests!

I'd probably show up in my '67 VW Bus, or I'll drive the bug if I want to go over 60mph on the way ;-p

It doesn't matter for me what month, but if it could take place on a weekend it would make my chance of attendance near 100%.  I'm sure that was planned anyway :-)  If this winds up taking place, I'd be open to pick up somebody on the way to share fuel costs...don't worry, I'm not what you'd expect of a bus driver in this day and age!

I would attend, but I'm about 5000 miles away, which means a 10 hour flight, which is far too expensive and I can't afford.

If we did something like this in Sheffield though I'd certainly come along.

Honestly,

With work and other things going on as they are right now (not Amiga things, just personal life things), I haven't even had time to think about it much.  Sorry.

Interesting...

I am about an 18 hour drive from AL.  I would be interested in attending.
