Title: X86 on PCI add on
Post by: ElPolloDiabl on November 01, 2014, 04:28:40 PM
Any chance of getting a single board x86 for an OS4 Amiga?

That's an i5. There are also Atom models.

Uhh what is the point of this again? You're wanting to take a PowerPC system and add one of these SBCs in and run Windows on the side? This won't work well for a variety of reasons:

OS4 doesn't have Synergy, so you will need to use either a KVM or separate attachments to run this.

Power supplies in those systems aren't going to be able to provide necessary power requirements without upgrade, you're likely to blow a fuse in them or worse short out your system.

If you recall there was talk about adding a raspberry pi to Amigas, the consensus is you're putting a fast computer onto a slow computer in order to keep the old computer on life support.

You would need to use a KVM, that's true... but why would the power supply be a problem? Most of the NG Amigas have decent power supplies unless they're a Sam440ep or something.

I agree it's a bit pointless, though, without any integration.

Never say never, I'm sure someone will figure out a way to do it.  :laugh1:

it does have a synergy client available, but, yeah integration would be a problem on the software side.

@thread

since this isn't technically about any 'amiga' hardware per se, i'm gonna move the thread to one of the AOS4 forums for now.
