Seems with the new version of ps3 they have removed the ability to install other OS

Hi JJ, nice to see you still about here. Have been mostly absent (pretty vacant) for about a year myself.
From what I have read, OpenGL isn't supported under Linux on the PS3 anyway, so what's the point? An expensive word processor?
Additionally, the existing firmware only allows you two options - allocate 10GB to alternative OS with the rest for PS3OS, or allocate 10GB to PS3OS with the rest to alternative OS. Not the most useful options for configuring my 400GB hard drive for multi-booting.
Of course, 10GB for an Amiga partition would be quite nice, but...

Linux on the PS3 was cool but a mixed bag. A 10 gig os install partitiion? Tried it, tinkered with it. It was sad to see it go. Suggest getting an original 20 GB PS3 as it it backwards compatible and offers linux install. That's how I roll!

@ Boot WB. Yep I am still here. How are things ?

Might be time to buy a brand new older version PS3 while they are still available, since I was already thinking of getting a Blu-Ray player and the option to run Linux is one I would want to have instead of having the newer version. But then, a better decision would probably be to just purchase a Blu-Ray burner for my PC and play any HD movies from there to the wide-screen TV which is in the same room anyway.
