It's a cool sketch, but a bit confusing. Is he on life support?

Actually, he's been tied into the Omni Defensive Barrier Matrix, which he designed to protect the dwarven population from the raging hordes of orcs. Sadly, he never finished the Matrix, but plugged himself in to activate it anyways. The ODBM malfunctioned and trapped the consciousness of the dwarven god in its mainframe for 1500 years.

(Dwarves are HIGHLY advanced technologically, as they no longer have magical abilities, due to their patheon being destroyed in the previous god war.)

The remaining dwarven population is only 40,000,besieged by orcs and they're torn between staying on earth or using the colony ship they built to find a new planet they can call their own.

Better.  :-D I've been working on this graphic novel since I was 15. That's 17 years. I *OFFERED* plots to people, but no one seemed intrested, even when I gave you guys a tease:

T.R.I.P. Chip (Threat Response Initiative Persona) - A ROM chip on a cyberdeck or C.D.I. that consists of an avatar used by ghosts in cyberspace. They come stock, but a Ghost worth anything will make his own and name the design. The first generation T.R.I.P. chips were created in the mid 1980's by a now defunct company and their dead technology, known now only as a 'custom chipset'.

If you can handle a 4MB file, I'll send you my production PDF.

England?? I always thought you were in Canada. I have family, which I've never met, somewhere in W. Sussex, I think.

Yeah, I crept back in a few months ago. You doing well? I'm about to break down and buy myself a new sports car, 'cos I'm about to get promoted at work and can finally afford a decent car. :-D Any chance I can get you to mail me a FIAT 500?? :-P

Looks good, makes me think a bit of that Bakshi "Wizards" style... and there hasn't been a whole lot of that lately.

Interesting... ;-)  You have any personal rationalization for all the tubing and wiring to the 'armor' versus the brain?  Could be fun if that's literally what keeps him from walking away, 'specially while his mind's off occupied with 'ODBM' business.

I was never much for fantasy as a kid, but I eat this stuff up now after Douglas Adams gave his whole perspective on it...  Not to mention that it gets more and more difficult to do good 'hard' SF, but that's another story.  (Don't let me overanalyze it before you're done!)

Tunnel Rat - A dwarven sapper. Because of the low number of dwarves capable of defending their last stronghold from relentless attacks by orcs, the Dwarven High Command created a special unit, called Tunnel Rats. Tunnel Rats are dwarves who have been trained to run. Each Tunnel Rat is equipped with a backpack -style anti-matter bomb. If a tunnel leading into the stronghold cannot be defended or is overrun by an orcish raid, a Tunnel Rat is sent into the tunnel. Being fast, it is hoped that the Tunnel Rat can get in and set off his anti-matter bomb, before he is killed. The resulting explosion will collapse the tunnel upon the Tunnel Rat and anything else within it, but prevents the breach of the stronghold. Tunnel Rats are fiercely loyal to their cause and will not hesitate to give their lives defending the stronghold. The Tunnel Rat banner bears the motto: 'We, who, are about to die!'

Dwarven Doctor:

'You musn't move too much, Mr. Di Luca. Dwarven medicine is far more advanced than anything you've ever encountered, but you still must have your rest. It was a brave thing you did for my people, Mr. Di Luca. You must forgive me, however, for I was unable to save your right arm. I hope you find its replacement more than suitable....'

SF Geek mode on:

Whoa, must be one *very* small amount of antimatter in the bomb and one *very* resiliant tunnel.

In the interest of credibility, never invoke antimatter in a story unless you are quite sure of the energy release even a miniscule amount of the stuff would cause.

Unlike fission or fusion, all of the anitmatter would always be consumed in the explosion, simply because it cannot survive contact with normal matter.

Ultra-Nerd Mode On:

It's not anti-matter like you're thinking.

Earth exists in what's known as the Positive Material Plane. There are dozens of different planes, including the Nai'sys Plane, which is realm of Yurimoto, the God of Death, Pestillence and Decay. 'Cos of the Yin/Yang factor, since there is a positive, there must be a negative, therefore there is a Negative Material Plane. The Negative Material Plane is a vast nothingness of evil and chaos.

Originally, the dwarves referred to these as Vortex Bombs, but I changed that. When the bomb is detonated, it rips the fabric of the Positive Material Plane with negative energies. Everything within the blast radius is then sucked into the Negative Material Plane, lost forever in chaos and darkness.

Perhaps I should change it back, so you techno-geeks don't rip me to shreds at GenCon.

A good way to think of how it works is what happened to the Engineering deck on the Enterprise-B in Star Trek:Generations.

No, it's just a rough production sketch. I'm not really happy with it. I think he should be more thin, more frail. I just wanted a bunch of wires and tubing attached to him, to show just how integrated Theodin is to the ODBM. His body is supposed to be nothing but an empty shell, kept alive by the ODBM. His consciousness, however, has become one with the ODBM and can never return to its body. Vinnie and Dyana eventually fix it, but it consumes the last dwarven god in the process.

If I could, I would
