Metalguy66 Posts:122 | December 02, 2008, 07:28:45 PM You need an accelerator that maps its on-board 32-bit ram outside the expansion ram adress space. Then you can put an additional 8megs of ram on the expansion bus (eg. in your hardisk controller) |
mr_a500 Posts:865 | November 28, 2008, 05:32:43 PM 40Mb fast RAM? I wish I had 40Mb in my A500. I've only got 8Mb (+2Mb chip) and I can't add more. (8Mb on Viper 520 is the maximum) Extra RAM really makes a big difference. My A500 is twice as fast as my A3000, but the A3000 has 16Mb RAM so it's more useable. |
clemenza Posts:93 | November 28, 2008, 08:19:34 AM What a beauty! I have almost the same setup (A500+, 2MB Chipmem, GVP HC8, external SCSI CD) but, instead of the Derringer I have a Stormbringer H530 with a 50MHz 030, an 68882 and 8MBytes fastram. |
czarek Posts:74 | November 26, 2008, 09:30:33 PM There is nothing to set up in hardware but installing SFS and adding more buffers may increase transfer speeds by about 20%. The rest is only a drive and GVP driver in ROM... |
Metalguy66 Posts:122 | November 26, 2008, 07:23:47 AM actually, Im replacing the HDD with a 4gig SCSI-3 Seagate Hawk drive... Hoping to max out the transfer rate of the controller.. Any ideas about the optimum settings for the HD+8/4008 controllers? i know they are capable of speeds approaching 3mbyte/sec... The drive ive got now only does about 820k/sec.. |
czarek Posts:74 | November 25, 2008, 09:52:33 PM Really awesome! I'm big fan of topped up A500s. My one is almost the same, only thing I miss is 2MB Chip RAM mod on my rev.6a mobo which I'm getting to do in near future - I have two rev. 8 boards but kinda like the one I've had for all of those years (since 1992) :-D PS. Didn't you think about replacing HDD with CF Card? |

Metalguy66 Posts:122 | November 25, 2008, 04:53:33 AM The box is a zoom 56k modem. The kickstart rom installed is 1.3. Its currently set to softkick KS3.1 off the hardisk. I am waiting for someone to burn me a dual kickstart (1.3/3.9) EPROM and I will install a hard-switch. I don't want to give up the ability to boot from floppies directly in KS1.3.. Also notice it has a British keyboard. I have an american keyboard I could put in it, but I'd rather leave the machine in its correct/original form. I've never tried the "multisync vga" modes. Ive alwayse had plenty of Amiga native RGB monitors. |
Lorraine Posts:304 | November 25, 2008, 03:41:10 AM Sweet A500+ system! I have a soft spot for this because it was my first Amiga, though I just stick with Big Box now. What's VGA mode like? (If I remember correctly aren't you limited to like 2 or 4 colours) |
