@timofonic

A lots of viruses spoof the source address. The addresses are harvested from various files on the infected system, addressbook, html files etc.

The fact you receive a virus from @amiga.org address does NOT mean the virus is sent on purpose or by using amiga.org account.

Then is needed a filter for eliminate the viruses and send a reply to the virus sender that says: you have a virus, eliminate it and go to this url for confirm that you readed this ... if you dont push this, your access will be canceled

no?

then amiga.org will use less bandwitch for these ####.

Actually are free source antiviruses and isnt difficult configure email servers for use it, and you can make the reply with a script.

NO!

This isn't the way it works.

The virus takes a random email address and uses it as the sender's address. The email is never from the person who'se machine sent it!

There's nothing you can do, except install filters that detect virus mails and throw them away. If you reply to the mail, your reply will go to the wrong person.

They uses the server of amiga.org for send, then only permit that send with the email address registered, requiring identification for send ?

And because they uses for send the amiga.org server, could be good install a filter for the viruses, no ? :P

No, they don't use amiga.org server.

They don't.

It's trivial to spoof email FROM address. They never use amiga.org server to send the spam/virus.

@timo

Sorry for my previous comment.  No SPAM messages are being sent by, or FROM this server.  The way that Internet e-mail currently works, it's very easy for SPAM generating programs to just guess thousands of e-mail addresses and send mail out pretending to be FROM someone.

Human beings are not involved in this process.  Chances are that a virus pulled your Amiga.org address out of someone's Outlook Express Address book and started sending mail out as (and to) you.

There is NOTHING that can be done to stop this, as it is a loophole in the basic way that e-mail works.

It could say "timofonic.does.not.get.it" aswell.

In fact, it can be whatever the spammer chooses. But obviously they pick valid hosts to steer the guilt to innocent bystanders (like amiga.org).

For the last time, amiga.org has NOTHING to do with these emails. I hope this is clear now.

As a Winblows system administrator I get this from users all the time...makes you kinda want to bash your head...

If you still don't understand what people have been trying to tell you about spoofing have a slow read of this:

http://www.lse.ac.uk/itservices/help/spamming&spoofing.htm

Bottom Line is:

IGNORE THE HEADER. AMIGA.ORG is NOT sending these to you! :)

The only thing that should be censored or banned to prevent this is the smtp protocol itself.

I'm now getting heavily spammed on my amiga.org address from seemingly random hotmail addresses - always the same message as well." I am a fit 24 yr old girl, and I'm new to the area, fancy a shag?" or somesuch. No viruses tho'.

I do find it irritating, as I use that address for keeping in touch with friends only. I have all the crap sent to my other address usually, and up to now I had not received a single spam email/virus on that address  :-x  :-x  :-x
