@ alexh

"...Becareful X-raying anything with flash and ESPECIALLY EPROMS as they will erase..."
----------------------------------------------------------

If that was the case, then you wouldn't be able to ship any of those components internationally, as they are all X-rayed. All items sent in the Royal Mail are X-rayed, so second hand components would be erased too. I have yet to see any computer hardware (programmable or not) that can be damaged by X-rays in the diagnostic range (maximum of 150 kilovolts, electromagnetic).

I can guarantee you that exposure to X-Rays can erase EPROMS.

UV erasable EPROMS (the ones with the windows in them) are supposed to work by being erased with UV light.

The shorter the wavelength, the quicker they are erased. Also X-Rays will penetrate the stickers that are over the windows whereas UV will not.

Perhaps the fractions of a second that the X-RAYS are on for make no difference... but do you really want to chance it?

An ex-girlfriend emailed me a jpeg of an interesting X-ray picture a couple of years ago.  It was of the head of one technician (I am hoping was a female) with the jaws fully open and immediately adjacent to this head was a side view of the hips of another X-ray technician (who was clearly a male).

I think you can figure out what was happening during the taking of that X-ray.  Something that Doomy apparently does not know about.

I think my ex was trying to tell me about something she was missing.   ;-)
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

I say go for retro

3) Technosound sampler, Vidi24RT digitizer and Commodore 030 card.

I'm sure I saw a cyberstorm x-ray in the photo album already, maybe it was something else.

@ Lurkist

Check my pictures in the album.

@ Pedro

That was a Cyberstorm MK II, not PPC.

Bollocks to thin Amiga PCB's.

I vote for Bloodline's sock. Failing that, Karlos' hand. Failing that, X-ray's Gattling gun or whatever that peashooter was he was sitting behind when that infamous picture was taken.

As Alexh said, take care with X-RAY !
Don't make it to long, and move your cards like they do for the customs. Too long and unmoved exposition can erase your eeprom.

Take care also that X has different meaning :
US : X -> Secret or Strong (XXX bottle)
France : X -> Pornographic classification, or wrong/false  ;-)
Keep the Faith !
VG 5000/A1000/500/500+/600/2000/CDTV/1200PPC-GREX/1200PPC -ATEO-BV/4060D/CD32/Aone/Peg 1/Peg2 G4/ various funny machines too  :-) http://www.mo5.com/collection/index.php?pseudo=CLS2086
I also repair drives of our old beloved Amiga

So far the Cyberstorm PPC looks like a winner. I'll wait until Monday morning before I tally the votes.

"...I vote for Bloodline's sock. Failing that, Karlos' hand..."
-----------------------------------------------------------

Negative on both counts. Firstly Bloodline's sock is a biohazard. Secondly it is probably too dense to X-ray by now. As for Karlos's hand, he already broke his wrist just so that he could get an X-ray of it and post it on Amiga.org  :-P
IIRC it had a Burberry-textured scaphoid too.

@ Frags

"....It`s a pity you can`t do the AGA chips - that would be dead cool...."
--------------------------------------------------------

I have an X-ray of my A4000T mobo somewhere. If I can find it I'll put it in the album.

@ Sir Inferno

"...ah, as opposed to non-electromagnetic gamma rays?..."
---------------------------------------------------------

No, as opposed to gamma rays and particle-based radiation, period. Gamma rays are part of the electromagnetic spectrum but they are of a much higher energy than X-rays. And particle based radiation is a whole different animal.
