RTG Driver for Grafitti
« on: April 14, 2005, 08:37:13 PM »
Hi,

Does anyone know where I can find info on how to write a RTG video driver?  I want to assess the feasibility of writing a driver for the Grafitti graphics box.

Thanks!

You'll need to conact Alex Kneer (see http://picasso96.home.pages.de/) to get the latest closed source driver development kit for Picasso96. The development process is pretty straightforward.

The CyberGraphX site is still offline. I have no idea how to get in touch with the current maintainers.

I'd pay money for such a driver. Best of luck to you. :-)

RTG drivers need at least Kickstart 3.0.

If a RTG driver could be made the it surely would be easy to connect a (almost) gfx card to any Amiga   I´m sure Jens would love this as it would give his sales a new boost

@Effy, I think the topic here is to write a hardware driver for an existing RTG system like CGX or P96. Writing an entire RTG system yourself will end up in a lot of work without any comparable result.

CGX and P96 are established and have proven compatibility with most Amiga applications. Your own RTG system yet has to do so.

Bye,
Thomas

Thomas is right-on.

My goal would be to implement an 8-bit chunky driver for the grafitti using an existing API, such as P96, with Workbench support as my first milestone.

The grafitti is a really interesting piece of hardware.  The real problem with it is the lack of software support.  An RTG driver would really improve the utility of the little box.

Additionally, an RTG driver might open the door for a second generation Grafitti box.  I'm not much of a hardware engineer, but it seems to me that it should be possible to extend the design of the grafitti to generate 16 or 24 bit graphics with AGA using a similar buffering and remapping scheme.

I would also pay money for such a driver, and think it's a great idea. This would be especially useful for A1200D setups which are sitting in standard original cases.
