This weeks Alexa stats
« on: May 21, 2003, 02:32:30 PM »
This is the last week that I will do only these sites,
as all Amiga related sites are skyrocketing in the Alexa ratings.
At a guess, this is because Amiga users now have a higher representation
in the Alexa system than they did a few months ago.
Soon it will be reasonable to include MooBunny, and popular retail
sites like Eyetech.

Rank for the last week: (lower number is better)

0. osnews.com: 17,350
1. amiga.org: 18,223
2. ann.lu:    25,609
3. amiga.com: 51,132
4. amigaworld.net: 82,642

Rank for the last 3 months (considering last 3 months traffic, not just 1 week):

0. osnews.com: 23,868
1. amiga.org: 103,986
2. amiga.com: 159,281
3. ann.lu:    223,590
4. amigaworld.net: 248,207

I can't help but comment as well.

I think that in a minor way, that amigan's may be installing the alexa toolbar in greater numbers and thereby having there votes 'count'.

but....nevertheless, fans of all amiga sites can do that, and pro-amiga fans and morphos fans alike can do that, and we are all pretty dedicated to our choices.

So I find it interesting as amiga sites skyrocket in popularity, we see moobunny and a few other sites moving up, but morphos sites still barely rank.
Its just that lack of established fanbase, and no slam on them.

I also find it interesting that amiga.org comes so close to osnews.com, but even as amiga sites skyrocket in popularity, osnews numbers aren't really jumping up...I would think they would be getting a minor boost in numbers as well, if my toolbar speculation was correct...unless amigans
just don't visit osnews...which is possible.

Finally....as for relative popularity, this is where I think alexa stats are the most accurate.
And we see, as always Amiga.org is the most popular, that has been the case since the first time I looked at the stats.

And amiga.org is probably doing very well to be the first with interviews and just my opinion, but the site does so well, because it has always been the most active with innovative features.  For one ads are interesting....the member stats, and hooks built into the website design....user driven content like forum posts being displayed on the main page.  Well, Amiga.org has always been the best website, imho, and keeping up the innovations is good.

Ann.lu does well too, and they do almost nothing innovative, they just allow free speech.  That's another approach.

I think the most heavily moderated site, amigaworld.net has gotten some fan support from the moderation strategy...along with q&a exclusives...but ultimately that strategy alone isn't enough to get them out of 4th place.

*edit*

p.s. another thing the stats have taught me, is what Amigaworld.net did, is ultimately, impressive, even if a 4th place showing....as other sites come online amigaz.org, amigaworld.org, etc....they don't make such a solid showing....and amigaworld.net does have a consistent fan base, even if they took most of their traffic from amiga.com and not from their competitors as they hoped.

I think also, it will be interesting to see amiga.com's numbers as they promote their own forums more, and how that cannibalizes amigaworld.net's audience.....should be an interesting few months!
