There seem to be so many of these games, when you include all the Tower Assaults and the SE variations. I don't want all of them, but want to get hold of one of them. Anyone have an opinion as to which is best, both in terms of graphics/sound and gameplay.
Cheers

BTW I'm not including the 3D ones.

Tower assault is certainly the most complete and the harder to finish. I though i was good at Alien Breed games but i have never made it to the top of the central tower. :-(
-
Hah, well despite the fact that I love computer games I'm actually not very good at them :-) So if Tower Assault is the best but also the hardest, which would be second best?

The first one I bought was Alien Breed SE '92 edition, I reckon that's probably the best. Tower Assault is good too but the game is so big it never felt like you were actually getting anywhere (tho maybe I was just crap).
-
I remember reading in Amiga Format that the CD32 one had a superb animation at the start (and I bet the sound was fantastic). Think this was Tower Assault.
I found Alien Breed games quite tough, especially that one where you have to escape the self destruct. I have to say Alien Breed 3D2:The Killing Grounds was pretty boring, even on '060.
-
If you have a CD drive or CD32 the best Alien Breed to get the CD32 version of Tower Assault as it comes with Alien Breed 2.
Personally I found Alien Breed Tower Assault to be the best in the series. It is really big and you sometimes dont feel you are getting anywhere but unlike the others its non linear so if you die you can try a different route

I'm the greatest Alien Breed fan in the world ! True ! :-)
Seriously, i really love Alien Breed. And as a big fan, all of them (excluding the 3D versions) are truly amazing for me.
As the guys said, the Tower Assault is huge, difficult, and a very good game.
But for me, the Alien Breed 2 is better. It even have especific versions for the ECS and AGA chipsets.
Despite the first level, that's a little annoying to get used to, the rest of the game is trully superb. Remember what i'm telling you if you decide to try this version: don't let the first level take you down !

Mugo is rught
Tthe best version is ALien breed 2
I recommend you the cd32 version of this game cause it have better collors cause uses aga chipset
Alien breed 1 y 3 are good as well but the second version is better
bye, Aldo

This one was easy ;)
1st Tower Assult, 2nd SE92

Thanks a lot guys. I'm going to try to get hold of the CD32 version of the second one.

Don't forget your genuine CD32 pad!
Hey, anyone else here think the Cheetah Bug mini-stick was crap?
-
I'll stick with my Zipstick I think :-) I wanted a Cheetah Bug for years. When I finally got one it broke within days. I sent it back and got another one, and the same thing happened, so I got a refund. Shame really, as I loved the design of it.

Hmm, you broke 2 in several days, and you loved the deisgn? Are you by any chance the head of Micro$oft's software quality management team?
-
 No, I'm not! Perhaps design was the wrong word. I meant I loved the style of it. They were supposed to be very robust as they had a metal chassis. I think it was the microswitches that were at fault as it wouldn't register movement half the time. Nowadays I would have tried replacing them... but back then I didn't know how

Yeah, my car has a metal chasis too. Unfortunately it's also not much better than a shopping trolly. I'll have look for any faulty microswitches though, just in case. ;-)
P.S. Unfortunately, unlike your controller, my car also looks crap too.
-
Yeah the design was class - single colour, ergonomic, compact.
The stick felt a little too slack though (I seem to recall adjustment didn't work either).
I think the only FULLY compatible controllers were the Commodore CD32 pad and the Honeybee/Competition-Pro CD32 pad. These had 4 fire buttons, 2 shoulder buttons and a pause button. A few games made use of all of them, ADoom lets you strafe with the shoulder buttons and AmiMasterGear emulator lets you quit to Workbench with the pause button.

Ha
No, actually it's my damned SkyCar (http://www.moller.com/skycar/) that needs a new joystick. Ever since I switched to a M$ wireless remote joystick, and started piloting from the back seat while watching the driving scenes from the 5th element on DVD, things just haven't been the same. Probably should have bought an analogue joystick, huh? Those damn microswitches...

Does anyone know anything about the new Alien Breed game Team 17 announced??
-
I can't find anything about it on their web site. I expect it will be another Doom/Quake clone on the PC/XBOX

I wonder if you can park those cars at 20,000 feet to avoid the traffic wardens.
:-D
I like the rear of that purple one, with the square turbine outlets - very Sci-Fi!
A new Alien Breed should focus back on the top down experience, it captures the imagination. Sonic The Hedgehog didn't give you the same feeling of control in 3D as when you were controlling the zany physics side on.
-
I did some research on the new alien breed.
It was called Alien Breed 2K4
It was for PS2
It was Top Down view
It was cancelled due to lack of publisher interest.
Theres a few sites with screenshots on
-
Hmmm, not sure I like the look of it:
