Shipping was 50£ but I don't regret it. :)

Ohh Man that's a pain. Bad luck. That damage looks pretty comprehensive…
Understand the urge to resurrect it.  A500+ is a rare beastie. It's possible some of the tracks and components are in the same state as the Gary socket.  But I hope not/
Hate to see such Amiga enthusiasm hit a wall.

Tell you what, if can’t get it working as a consolation I can send you a working Plain A500 with v5 Motherboard, For Free, postage only.

Don't give up on it.

Sad to hear the result djos.  But it sounds like you haven't totally given up.  Even if you have a suitable replacement option.

Sounds like things are going well'ish.  Working with old Amiga kit can be a challenge. My A1200 stopped working a couple of weeks ago, had to take everything out of it clean it all and put it back together.  Hopefully your new 3.1 rom will complete it.
How's the video quality of the VGA adaptor?

Inspired by another project I've seen recently, I knocked up this Colour ROM Switch sticker:

Hi-Res: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/71121999/Amiga/ROM_Switch_01.png

and here is a version shrunk to 15% of original (which I found is about perfect sizing):

Small: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/71121999/Amiga/ROM_Switch_01s.png

and my quick and dirty install: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/71121999/Amiga/2012-07-31%2021.12.48.jpg

Enjoy.

You should have got the nifty and cotton buds out before you stuck that down.  Lots of dust there djos!!!!.

Well done! Another piece of vintage hardware lives on. How well secured is that S-Video socket?

Congratulations !
And priorities "Harry Chapin"! Amiga will still be there when the kids are in bed and sleeping for 12 hours.

Cool. Don't think the MCSE manuals will help with working on an A500....

Wow, Never consciously noticed you moved djos.  Welcome to Melbourne!
You forgot to mention you can get a good coffee here too.  Though SA has much, much better wine. IMO.  But you can buy that in plenty here.

Adelaide coffee is decent too but cheers for the welcome. :)

Do you attend the Commodore and Amiga group here in the eastern suburbs? (It's pretty good)

Yeah that's what I mean't "too" as in "as well".  But wine is a different thing.

Re the A500+; You sometimes have to stop and think; This is a 24 year old computer. Decked out with lots'o new stuff but essentially that.  Can you imagine a device of today being used in 25 years?  The double sided tape would all dry out and they'd just fall apart. Not to mention the batteries.

My A2000 is in storage now but my A4000, A1200 and A500 just continue to fire up and work.  Amazing.
