NAF Amiga Multimedia Contest 2005 is ended
« on: December 01, 2005, 03:58:50 PM »
The Amiga Multimedia Contest of 2005 of Norwegian Amiga National User Group Norsk amigaforening is over.  Sadly, no contributions were made, even though the prizes were raised from 2004 level of 1500 NOK to 3000 NOK this year.

Sponsor of this contest, Tommy Strand, aka alef and alefOne, still wants to make this contest into an annual event for members of Norsk amigaforening.

Norsk amigaforening Norwegian web site is at naf.as

Could the lack of entrants be down to no one knowing about it? I certainatly have never heard about it... Also why not allow anyone to take part? Sure you'd get many people from around  the world intersted in a chance to win 3000 NOK :-)

I want a little bit in return for being a sponsor of this contest, namely that being a member of NAF is worth while. Although I maybe get only 2 or 3 new members for having this contest, I would be pleased if the opportunity of participating in this contest would affect somebody to pay their entrance fee to NAF, giving our Amiga National User Group a few more members.

I have been doing this Amiga hobby of mine for so many years I feel I don't want to waste 3000 NOK on anybody, but only those "worthy"....
Read: Without having something in return...

Please remember: As state is time being, one could easily pay membership of NAF priced to 260 NOK then participate in contest for 2006, and being maybe the only contestant you would win 3 x 1st prices of sum 1500 NOK. Indeed such a member would cost me a lot, but I would be happier than situation is as of today....

Regarding "nobody may not know about this contest": I did extensive adverticing on Amiga IRC channels of EFnet and AmigaWorldNET IRC network for months and months about this contest...

Nobody seemed to notice when I talked about these contests anyway....so I guessed atm there was no interest...

Well, I for one have never heard of "NAF", let alone this contest. Presumably membership would only make sense for Norwegians? What would be the point of anyone joining this user group, you don't have any English-language resources!? Of course no one will join except Norwegians...

Even if I wanted to enter, you haven't explained (at least in English) exactly what kind of entries are desired.

You can't really advertise something by flooding IRC channels, it's not a very effective method. No wonder you had no entries...

@ alef

Announcing only on IRC limits your audience severely. Not everyone uses IRC. I don't.

But look at all the interest that this newspost alone has generated! Put some periodic news updates here, AW.net, ANN, and Morphzone and I'll think you'll have a full competition on your hands! :-)

NAF == Norsk amigaforening == Norwegain Amiga Association, and is well known among Norwegians afaik

Well...amiga.org, AW.net, ANN and Morphzone is none of our primary places for adverticing. We rely much more on naf.as and polarboing.com as we (yes, and I never said anything else) aim more towards the Norwegian Amiga audience...

And when this is said, we in NAF mostly does a short notice out of it when our Amiga magazine Amigaguiden is issued. Atm Amigaguiden magazine has reached issue 42 since 1992, and last year we had about 70-80 subscribers. Not bad for a small country up in the north to be :D

its obvious what people are saying...if you aren't going to advertise the contest in advance on amiga.org, why announce its failure afterwords on amiga.org?

seems silly.

@ MarkTime:
I never found it proper to post news at amiga.org as this competition is for members of NAF only. afaik members of NAF reads naf.as as much as they read amiga.org.

First years of competition we had enough and satisfying contributions, but last 2 we had none. I only thought by this posting at amiga.org to make international Amiga audience aware that Norwegian Amiga users don't pay any attention to this competition.

Sincerely hoping they would get a kick in the butt by this. Instead I am getting a kick in the butt. For sure this don't make me want do give sponsorship to no more Amiga contest. Congratulations for that effort, MarkTime. Maybe it is silly of me to have this contest.

Is NAF and the contest advertised on any non Amiga norwegian sites and forums.
Maybe the prize money would generate more interest in Amiga in norway.

Excellent idea, there, Rob!
I shall have that one in mind in my further work with NAF! Big thanks!

I knew about NAF.

I did not know about the contest.

I am norwegian.

I would probably contribute if I was a member.

I would sign up to be a member -at once-

had reviewed the worlds best strategy game
