This is the sort of question, if I had thought of it, that I would have put in the hardware section. I probably will still, even though there's an audio specific forum now. I'd save my Amiga audio production stuff for this place, if I had any. I guess it depends on the intent of the poster and we now have an overlap situation.

I have a set of normal stereospeakers (240W) with a mono/stereo-switch on the cable which is almost always in it's mono position.

After the audio amplifier of my Philips CM8833-II monitor burned out, i have tried 2 brands on my Amiga 1200: A SoundStar 120W and another one that i can not remember right now. The sound quality was disappointing for both speakers. My monitor had the best sound quality by far!

I have connected my A1200 (and my other computers) to a standard HiFi-amplifier. Technics, I believe, although I can be mistaken as I've had the thing for years now, never look at it and just switch it on/off. Works like a charm, though!

I still use a Sony Audio/video control center hi-fi to power a set of old school Advent speakers fron the 70's/80's. they are the ugly old brown & beige kind.

I still like the sound of them though they could use a little more bottom end like modern speakers have.

The only stupid question is a question not asked.

I have nearly always used the internal monitor speakers, but I think I will look for a nice second hand HiFi amp with not too big speakers. I used to have an old Akai amp, which was "only" 2X40 Watt, but it kicked ass like a 2X450. See if I can find myself one of those again :-)

By the time Paula reaches my speakers it's been through a rackmount effects unit and then the line in of the PC. So it eventually emerges in 6 channel dolby.

Which is nice...

My Amiga is connected to an old Pioneer SA 7300 Amp which in turn has four speakers in stereo.

Yamaha YST-M20 stereo amplified shielded speakers - nice sound and they have two inputs, which is helpful!

I also use these with PCs (got a couple of sets). Personally, I can't be bothered with all the clutter of surround speakers just for computer use, or even a separate sub - and the sound from these is good enough for my use.

Analogue 2.0 sound rulez!!  :-D   Though the forced two channels left / two right of Paula does sometimes sound odd!
