introducing amiga games
« on: May 17, 2010, 05:35:23 PM »
so I introduced a friend to some amiga games last night. He couldn't believe they ran on a machine with only 1 meg of RAM :)

I showed him Turrican 2 and ALien Breed 2, the intro to Cannon Fodder, then we rocked it two player in Bubble Bobble, Moonstone and Super Cars 2

Great games!

How about NewTek's Demo Reels? And did you show him the OS? That always seems to impress people new to the Amiga as well. Especially when you're talking what all you can run with just a 512kb system  ;)

Super Stardust and Project X are as pretty to look at as they are fun to play. These two truly shine and show what the Amiga *was* really capable of.

Next time he comes over, show him Ruff 'n' Tumble, Lionheart, Fightin' Spirit, Mr. Nutz: Hoppin' Mad, and some other games that only came out on the Amiga! All the games you showed him came out on either the PC, Atari ST or Commodore 64 and aren't necessarily the best way to show off either the Amiga's technical capabilities, or games unique to the system.

Good to see he enjoyed it still and was impressed. How about you show him the Arte and State of the Art demos as well next time!

This was in emulation, but he got into games a bit later in life than I did, so he wasn't familiar even with the DOS or 64 versions.

Good points on the titles.
I forgot to mention, we also played a bout of Gloom in split screen, which was a ton of fun.

I'll definately break out some demo's next time, though I need to get my brand "new" (to me) 1200 up and running first for that. Running demos in emulation feels like cheating

well, my 2000 is NTSC and doesn't play nice with pal games even on a monitor, and my new 1200 is still missing a power supply :)

runequester: I take it your 2000 doesn't have a Fat Agnus in it? If it did, you'd probably have no probs. running PAL games/demos. I ran a ton of PAL stuff on my (now gone) 500...

And, yeah, please use a real miggy... emulation is cheating, .... and for my money, I've had poor luck with emulators in general....

Oh yeah, how about Apidya? Pretty sure it's Amiga-exclusive (Cammy?) and the main reason I registered WHDLoad.

Apidya REALLY REALLY looks like a console game, but who knows :)
Me and my buddy Dave have played it a lot in two player, its great fun.

And yeah, my 2000 is OCS only. Since I got a 1200, I am pondering selling it, but maybe its worth looking into upgrading it

Yeah, Apidya sure is another Amiga-only game, and a great one at that. If you're into Amiga-only horizontal shooters, check out Agony and Disposable Hero too!

Robocop 3D (dunno if it will work under emulation though)
