New feature for WinUAE please?
« on: September 18, 2003, 07:17:22 PM »
I wonder if it would be possible to convert emulated serial port calls into real TCP/IP calls, so that two PCs could play say Stunt Car Racer or Populous 2 on a TCP/IP LAN.

Any reasons why not?

TCP/IP is a full network protocol, serial is just a series of on/off messages on 9/15 pin wire. It's not possible to directly change one into the other.

I realised that, and also an app requiring direct pin access to a NIC's UTP port would probably require some major work, a device driver and admin privs :-)  I'm not recommending that approach :-)

At worst a DirectPlay (part of DirectX) implementation might make matters easier, though that would lose WinUAE -> UAE inter-operability in this respect.

@ Im>bE

If it were such a masochistic exercise I wouldn't bother doing it.  However, I can emulate my real Amiga spec as good as it works normally, on my PC.  Games work perfectly well on it.  ADF access is faster [than floppy] with WinUAE's new access speeds.

So I disagree entirely with what you're saying :-)
