I bought a Chameleon the other month and that wasn't exactly cheap.

I thought the Chameleon was still in dev?
it list a price which is not that bad I bought one of those 1541 Ultimate II (only about 50 less).
Can you let me know when you receive yours since I am dieing to buy one.

What they should have done is resurrect the C64 DTV for $15-20 in massive quantities AND wired one of those FPGA boards to the C64x case & keyboard for $99.

If people want a cheap shit PC they can buy one for $250 too, total = $350. half price of C64x

Or even if this thing was simply just a $199 bluetooth keyboard, with a steel plate in it to give some weight, I might buy one to use my current PC.  But I don't need another low end shit Atom.  And I certainly don't want a bunch of F-ing wires running all over the place.  

It's 2011.  I'm past the wires hanging out all over the ass end of my keyboard (other than for true classics).

Yeah, make this a just a high quality bluetooth keyboard and you have a sale.   I could use it for fun on my cell phone, laptop, etc.  That would be novel.   Or simply make it like those joystick things that plug into your tv.  Or better yet both.  But another PC?  Nah, no thanks.  I'll stick with a cheap ass real C64 and do one of the 100 hacks out there and do the same things for 1/3 the cost.

Doing a case in small numbers is never going to be cheap. Which is why the vic/c64/c16 used the same moulds.
 
If you want a 64 then the cheapest way is to buy an original one & get a 1541 ultimate II.
 
A stand alone chameleon is no better than an emulator on a PC, you can plug a 1541 & joystick into any PC using a USB adapter.

I picked up a C64C for it having used my breadbox C64 for a while and decided I needed a bit more comfort.  

It is interesting that I used a VIC20 and C64 for years and years with no issues, but once the C128 and Amiga models with low keyboards arrived and became standard then it is hard to get comfortable with the bulky breadbox case again.

It is still in development, but I've had mine for around 5 weeks.  There are regular core updates coming out and updating it is as simple as connecting it to a PC via the supplied USB cable and running a small program (it takes less than a minute).

I've been away on business for 3 weeks so I'm looking forward to getting home and reflashing it with a new core.
