Android vs i-Phone

I guess its finally time for me to ditch my docomo-foma and move to a smart phone ...

I've seen the HTC Desire HD and I must say it looks sexy

I know apple has a stronger app market but I'm not sure I'll be needing a sequencer or voice synthesis on my phone. mission critical stuff seems to have been ported to the android (office suite related stuff, gps-map, facebook, etc ...) is there any reason for me to choose apple ? if not I'ld really like to avoid having to use stuff like i-tunes ...

Depends on the model, but for the most part, yes.

Android is great... if you like having your personal information sent to who knows who across the internet without your permission. Say what you want about Apple's control over app store content, but I'd rather know that everything I run is safe.

I'm not sure about Apple not using your personal information. They all abuse our right for privacy, and I do not understand why nobody in the politics do something about it.
I only kind-of trust mobiles with complete open source software.

It's not so much Apple I'm worried about; the stats on third party Android apps which sent personal information without consent were scary.

I have an iphone 3gs and just got an htc desire hd this week.

If I had to sum it quick the biggest advantage to the htc is the screen size. I have to be honest here, I am getting closer to 40 and my eyesight is suffering.

It is incredible what an extra 1 inch does to the screen.

Therefore

iphone: better apps, closed system, still no flash player!
desire hd: great screen, plus android is cool :-)

IMO go for the htc if you use it more as a smart phone and iphone if you use it more as a phone ! Does this make sense?

ps. keep in mind that the Desire HD battery is pitiful small and might but just might last a day with 3g data and wifi enabled.

You can't beat the range of apps on the iPhone. I've been disappointed with the apps on my Android phone - still no Sim City!

Also the iPhone integrates very nicely with iTunes, making it very simple to operate and transfer media.

However it does lack some things - you can't just use it as a USB flash drive - whereas you can with Android. The memory is built-in, most Android phones use MicroSD (which you can plug into an Micro-SD to SD adaptor, and thus into an SD-USB adaptor) which is handy.

You can often get Android phones on cheaper tariffs, but on an equivalent tariff I would get an iPhone 4 these days.

Though it's not quite as convenient as using USB, you can use an iPhone as a wifi drive using various apps on the app store.
