PowerBook G4 MorphOS sneak preview
« on: November 07, 2009, 03:45:24 PM »
Here's a video I shot some time ago. It shows my PowerBook G4 system booting up the MorphOS 3.0 (development branch):

PowerBook-G4-MorphOS-3-sneak-preview.mp4

Please note that this isn't official confirmation of any kind. A lot of support infrastructure for laptop usage is still missing, as well as some drivers.

PS. Sorry for the poor video quality.
PPS. We don't need any beta testers for the PowerBook version for now.

Is it too hard to answer right now yes or no if this is planned to come in the future?

Looking good! I imagine a touchpad driver is one of the pending challenges.

Is there anything I can do to help make this an official confirmation? Donations? Moral support? Epic poems in your honor? :)

Any chance that you could give us the specs of your Powerbook? :)

At least MorfOS guys let news slip out on the net now and then, kudos to you guys who let the community take a sneak peak into the future! (some companies such as those beginning with an H and ending with an N could learn a lot).

MorphOS f"n rulez if you ask me, as a user it is as good as OS4.1, if H and N company fails to persuade my continued interest in 4.1 by providing high end hardware in 6 months a G4 powerbook with MorphOS will be my main next gen Amiga, and I will proudly call it Amiga even to stubborn AmigaOS4.x diehards...

Yep. Looks like a top-o'-the-line 15" model.

(The adorable little 12" version uses a different graphics chip, unfortunately, so I don't think we'll be seeing support for that any time soon.)

Would love to run MorphOS on the 17" Powerbook. But I think I will settle for the 15", better get a good deal now than to wait untill the release :)

I think the 15" and 17" are extremely similar, so if there's support for one there'll probably be support for the other.

It's been over two years since I have logged in here, but I had to log in and reply.  This is great.  The Powerbook has been abandoned by Apple beginning with Snow Leopard, so I will be looking at Morphos when it is available for the Powerbook G4.  I have two of them.

This would be so great if it were to become official.  I would love to have a MorphOS laptop.  I have three 12 inch powerbooks and a 17 inch here (one day I'll overcome this eBay addiction!)

The 12" Ibook had almost the same specs as the now supported Mac mini. (32mb Radeon 9200)
Maybe after he gets the laptop specific stuff working on the powerbook the ibook could come later?

I nearly bought an iBook on the chance that would happen. I may still. But I'll probably sacrifice iBook compactness in favor of a PowerBook if it means I don't need to rip the entire machine to shreds to replace a drive. Yikes!

The day support for the powerbook or ibook is officially announced I'll buy a maschine  in a minute! While the mini already contributed to a better mobility (am doing a job abroad ATM and had no prob to take my MorphOS maschine with me) a laptop would be great. I am sitting a lot in trains - a MorphOS laptop would sweeten many journeys.
Since the 1.0-1.3 days (when improvements were massive and frequently) it was never so much fun to use MorphOS than it is recently (since the 2.0 release).
