Am in the market for a new computer - would love to consider the Sam440ep, but pricing is way off *and* an American distributer is hard to find.

aaah! This is TERRIBLE news... for my wife. I don't think I can resist the urge to buy this but she's gonna kill me for spending more money on my Amiga hobby. :nervous: :destroy:
-
Great news !
(Hoping mac mini port is on the way also...)
-
The price is definitely not right lol
Thanks guys ... but I'll be sticking with my A1200 for the foreseeable future.
-
good new at last :-)
...but too expencive...
at this price, i will stay with os4.0 classic and the pegasos/mos2x. not bad...
too young to rock 'n roll :-D

Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
and I just have to repeat myself.
Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

So what do I do with my Amiga Inc $50 coupon? (besides shove it up my arse)
-
SAM440ep (667Mhz CPU) is here:
http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=840
-
YES! 8-)
-
Remember, this is Amiga stuff we are talking about. The price isn't all that bad considering I paid more for my micro A1 and Cyberstorm boards still sell for much more on EBay.
I paid $1500 CDN for a complete micro A1 system including the OS4 pre-release a few years back. Looks like a case, hd, OS4, DVD & SAM will set you back about $1100 by my estimation (depending on your selected componets of course).
-
I hope they sell well. I bet even that if someone put one up on ebay at cost, it'll fetch higher because of there being people not knowing about Amiga websites like AO and stuff. If these guys can't get the numbers of sales they need, they should set up on ebay to clear out the stock. Or, they could put them in a warehouse for 20 years and let redrumloa rediscover them. :-)
-
for a bit of a cheaper option how about the 533 Mhz version:
http://www.acube-systems.biz/eng/sam.php
-
The 533Mhz version is discontinued and not available - ACube will not make any more - this is why we are selling the 667Mhz (http://amigakit.leamancomputing.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=840) version
-
Great news. Still pricey, but that's a supply/demand issue. Let's hope Amiga, Inc. doesn't pull some magical international cease and desist crap out of their you know what.
@amigakit
Delivery via AmiWest?

Congratulations to Hyperion Entertainment VOF and ACube Systems SRL.

Finally. Good work - hope you get lots of sales.

The flex version should be available soon and should be a good deal cheaper, even when you add a video card.
Here's one US dealer (http://revanchellc.com/) that will most likely adding Sam440 to his catalogue.
-
So what do I do with my Amiga Inc $50 coupon?
How did you get a coupon? All I got was a T-shirt!
Coincidentally, I wore my Amiga T-shirt on the weekend for the first time in years.
Finally, this is cool and exciting news! What is the 'flex' version of the Sam?

@Bennymee & ACube
That's more me.!!
I want expandability! give me lots of slots. you can sell me qadd on cards to do the stuff I want to do like sound/raid/firewire/tv or some such.
-
Splendid!! Awesome!!
Long Live Amiga! :-D

I would like to echo the "Great HW, Great SW, Stupid Price" comments above.
To be honest, given these silly prices Hyperion would be better making Amiga OS work on old G3/4/5 Mac hardware. Huge numbers of these exist and they might actually SELL some of the OS then!!
Maybe Sam440ep becomes worth buying when the mobo/cpu comes in around £150/€200/$300 but at current prices I'll just note with mild interest but buy something else
-
Those interested had better buy the OS as soon as it is available, before A.inc step in and try to stop it from being sold anywhere.
I am tempted, but have just spent my money on an EFIKA system and registered MOS2.1, so I will have to wait.
Does anyone know what the SAM440ep was selling for just before this announcement of OS4.1 being released on it? There just doesn't seem to be any sense to the price?
-
@amigadave
I dont know the price before but i know it has been on sale for some time now..
Gues no one wanted to run PPC linux on a 533mhz if i only knew i might have bought one. The same argument was valid for the EFIKA, i diddent want to buy it at first but now that has changed as well... Btw how does your EFIKA handle DVD and DIVX feeds ? From the specs it looks too slow unless the ati hardware is used for decoding...
-
Vesalia (http://htp://www.vesalia.de) takes pre-orders for the Sam440ep including AmigaOS4.1 (http://www.vesalia.de/e_sam440ep.htm)
-
What's the FPGA and associated header for? Does it contain currently used functions, or is this free space?
-
And the reason for this not being announced on Amiga.com site is?
Dammy

I would like to echo the "Great HW, Great SW, Stupid Price" comments above.
At some point you got to wonder if what people really want is everything for free.
-
;-) This is good news indeed...
:-( But it's a bit too pricey for me right now. Perhaps in a few month's time I'll have saved up enough, but by then they may be out again, or there may be a cease-and-desist order or whatever.
 *Sigh!*
-
It's about time. I'm happy for them. I hope that it works out, for the best. I can't afford one right now, but maybe I'll get one soon.
Cheers!
-
How did you get a coupon? All I got was a T-shirt!
It's a "virtual coupon". :-D
Coincidentally, I wore my Amiga T-shirt on the weekend for the first time in years.
Mine is still on a hanger in my wardrobe. I will wear it for the first time when and if the ****ing lawsuit ever finishes! ;-)
-
Seems like Vesalia ran out of stock for the first batch of AmigaOS 4.1 and they don't have it right now. AmigaOS 4.1 for Sam is 6.05 Euro cheaper than AmigaOS 4.1 for AmigaOne, and is available for purchase not bundled with SAM, for the one who already bought SAM boards. With the SAM + OS 4.1 bundle, may be the price of AmigaOS 4.1 will go under 100 Euro (All prices I mentioned here are with 19% German VAT).

Is this the final spec for this board?
I notice that RAM speed is DDR100. The SAM440EP have DDR266, so the flex board might be slower?
And for exansions, I guess the EP board can be used with a PCI riser card to add more slots.

Hi, everyone.
I've been an Amiga user since 1988.
Had to move over to other systems for my 3D work (Maya doesn't work that well on an '060...), but kept checking on the Amiga all this time.
Now, quite fed up of waiting, I'd like to know if there is any reason to buy this system - if at all I can, since I don't seem to find a place to buy an AmigaOne, for instance.
So, if anyone of you has one of these new systems, please tell us how good (or bad) they are.
ThanX.
-
I think my official thoughts on this are:
If it was 1998 I would have been all over this. I would have had dancing bannana's and stuff all over the place.
Sadly, its the end of 2008. Spending $850 on a system that I would use as a hobby is just to much. I guess the giddy feeling the Amiga use to give me just isnt that strong anymore
WinUAE w/ 3.9 and MorphOS on my Efika are there if I need to run anything Amiga wise these days.
I spent less then $150 on both of them.
-
This is good news. Finally there is hardware to buy that can run OS4.x. It's a step ahead, and even though expensive, at least there is something available out there.
I also can't justify the current price at the moment, considering that the purchase would be for a hobby system, however I am happy that there is an option available out there should I want to get in on the bandwagon.
-
great news!!!!!
-
Congratulations guys, happy AOS4 day to all those who've been waiting!
Us Peg/MorphOS users welcome you to the the Next-Gen Amiga Club - AT LAST! \o/
-
Excellent! Finally new hardware for AmigaOS that doesn't require emulation. This is good news.

I'm sure the system will be fine. AmigaOS is lightweight, so not much hardware is required for basic operations. For mathematical computations, you could probably check the CPU manufacture's website for the computation specs. Maya probably won't be ported to AmigaOS4 soon unless a company is willing to pay for the port in partnership with Maya; however, since Linux runs on the Sam boards and Maya works on Linux, the system could be used in a dual boot configuration.

How can that be, considering that MorphOS for the efika alone costs 150 euros?
-
@kolla,
I havent registered MOS yet. I'm not when I will. I actually use Amiga apps so little these day that I never need more then 30 minutes for what I'm doing.
I probably will register it when I can spare the cash. It was nice of them to offer a full working version so I could see if it worked for me
-
Tripitaka starts spending his physics bursary .....in his head.....before he's got it....
....damned expensive hobby.
I wonder if I could squeeze this into an A1200 case with Keyrah and a PSU and still use the PCI with a right angle adapter. I've got a nice white case doing nothing.
-
I've got an A500 one too come to think of it, that's a bit bigger if the A1200 case doesn't fit...mmm :hammer:
-
it is great to see amiga hardware progressing, but it could be better considering the hefty pricetags...i think i'll hold off a little while before rekindling my amiga love...
