Is Second Life any more ridiculous then facebook or twitter?

Personally I'd rather use my computer for more practical uses, but who am I to judge.

No problem.  I know you have put a lot of work into it.  Hopefully someday it will all come together.  I've seen lots of pictures and it's pretty amazing everything you have done.  Maybe in a few years we can all get together.  I think it will be fun.

More practical than being able to communicate with people from across the planet in real time?

I don't get why people bash Second Life.  It's a computer app.  Sure people use it for lame stuff, but companies like IBM, Cisco, AMD, Sun etc have dozens of public and private sites on Second Life.  People making fun of Second Life is as ignorant as people saying the "Internet" is just for games and porn and can't be used for anything practical.

I'm not really a SL user.  I used it a for a class at University and then a few times getting ready for this Amiga gathering.  But I can't believe people bash technology with so much potential when they clearly have never tried it.

SL has lost many of its active users by now. So in most respects it is like IRC. Still going, but not very useful unless you want to talk to random strangers.

Facebook and farmville are something for people who really aren´t into computers and always have to look at the keyboard to find the "any key" (hint: Lamers!).

There was also something called Pooville or something like that.  Is it still going?

Thanks for the link mate!. Will check it out when i have the time. Also, have you tried to use also opensimulator?.*It's a secondlife variant but in opensource, and you can have your own grid in your computer and have it connected with the rest using Hypergrid. I look at it and i'm setting up some grids for testing purposes.
Also, having your own sim saves you the hassle of having to buy or rent land in sl.

@Iggy
I don't understand your bashing. Second life and similar sims are interesting for people who like scripting and rendering of 3d models, and for people to likes new technologies. Of course, is also intended for average users that only want to chat or another things. I don't see the inconvenience in  there.

@the crown

heyhey two time i can't make the event. not about sl linden money but lack of time ! actually i'm part of an art real association on second life which this evening will recreate the real event as my personnal exposition in a cool and huge gallery :) as to answer to people who tells things about sl without knowing the best way to play sl is to link to reality. as sl to share art, links and so on. as sl to meet people without any distance exept time zone. as a new (from 2003 ok :) )medium as cool as irc but well every one can tell right or wrong about it. and yes irc is non payed.

ok go to see with cool friends of vitalmotion to thing at first what is possible to do as event and AFTER build it with sponsors. as not only amiga meeting but also c64, cpc 6128 and 6128+, thomson to8d, amiga ng (as morphos 1.4.5 i'm posting on) and surely linux

sl is a good medium when good using

if irc/sl war is beginning after atari/amiga one hwoooooo hey i won't be part of

respect to valis and the crown for believing it.

surrely in more than a year a new event will be held

regards

stef

The building is gone. Guess this means there will be no meetings of Amiga-Fans in SL in the near future?

I think one problem of meeting Amigans in SL is that there really is no way to participate in SL if your main computer is an Amiga. They should make a text only or 2D client. Which would be great for cellphones too.

@ismart : hello helo ! yes i sold the building because of mainly 40€ each both for both. the building as a pyramid is my personnal galery ( just next) , the white one. in the past there was a relay text chat version but not any in my eyes. the good point is that my actual building which will be and stay is perfect for any meet betweens amiga owners. just put a linux next to you your miga to come as in a big big client or by a softy one. you have to search for third party clients second life by google and try and found the one your personnal computer will be able to execute. then no not any chance to make a real meeting as a virtual party anymore, two tries and no time for but monthly meets would be great in my pyramidal building if any interested in helping me for

as watching demos , other streams we choice before

regards to you all and apologies to all
