Make no mistake - I would have one if I could afford it.

Well, you already have one by proxy... It's all these slackers who haven't even tried one that I'm disappointed with! :-D

Well I've had a play with an iPhone and think that is an awesome gadget. I can certainly see why you didn't want to wait till March to get one :-)

Firstly I liked the huge screen of course. My N95's screen is as wide as my N70's is tall, but the iPhone's screen is as wide as my N95's is tall. The touch screen is incredible to use although I found it a bit tricky to hit the right letter when typing. It took at expert at the O2 shop about 5 attempts to type amiga.org properely. After which I showed him A.Org and one of my own posts at this site (as you would :-D)  Internet browsing was fast and looked fantastic on the large screen. I also used its map function and zoomed in to see my own house with my car outside 8-)

I was surprised to learn that you can't Bluetooth to/from your friends phones as the only way to get stuff in and out is with the iTunes sotware. Pity! I was even more surprised to find out that although it has a camera it cannot capture video footage. The music library looked great with all the album sleeves nicely on display to flick through. I couldn't really check out the sound quality in the noisy shop.

I think that the O2 contract itself is a ripoff at £35 for 18 months to get just 200 minutes and 200 texts. Hopefully one day you'll be able to just buy the iPhone and put your own sim in it, but the guy said that this is not planned.

As a gadget I would give the current iPhone at least an 8 out of 10. Yes, I think I would be more than happy to have my N95 in one pocket and an iPhone in the other :pint:

Suppose it all comes down to what you need from your chosen device.  I dont need an MP3 player on my phone as I have already got (in my opinion) a better mp3 player  than an Ipod.

Basically got an N95 becuase over the years I have had lots of different Nokia phones, and have only been disapointed when I have had Motorollas and samsungs.

For me a 2mb camerea with no video would have been bad enough, but no 3G supopport was the anti-deal clincher if you like.

I would liken the Iphone to an ipod with internet, with an phone bolted on.

Where as I would say the N(5 and other phones of that ilk are a Camera phone with other goodies bolted on.

I have no interest in an IPhone because they're too damned expensive. Same goes for almost every phone really. With the amount of abuse and suffering electrical devices I carry in my pocket have to endure, it just doesn't make sense to buy fancy expensive stuff. Their life expectancy is too low =).

I never pay for my phones, well indirectly I do. But im the UK phones, apart from the Iphone, and sometimes when they first come out, are free with the Contract.

My contract over the year will not cost what the phone costs to buy  on Pay as you go or simless.  This is because the mobile phone networks pay tomwards the phones.

I dont know if its the same in Holland.

I know in the USA they do not seem to get free phones ever.

The get-a-phone-with-a-contract thing is here too. I only do cheap one-year contracts so no 'free' phones for me. I buy cheap prepaids, have the SIM-lock removed and put in my own SIM-card.

BTW Holland is not The Netherlands, like England isn't the UK =).
