Amiga I will PAY high

...

PC cheap

You do realise that PC manufacturers can mass produce hardware for little costs?  The more they make at the same time the less they cost.

How many PCs are there in use in the world?

How many Amigas are in use?

Okay so the prices are probably still a little too high but I can't see the companies making much profit if they don't sell for those prices.  They'd probably stop making and selling Amiga hardware full stop then what choice would we have?

Software is different.  I can't see many people spending £30 for DOpus when current software isn't much higher.

But then again, I'm not most people.  I love DOpus and would happily pay that price for it.  It's simply the best thing ever to happen to WB.

oh come on man.  While I AM glad you can still buy this, they have already made a ton of money of dopus.  They stopped updating it ages ago.  I think you need to lower the price or add new features if you are going to sell this old stuff.  Frankly I agree just make it PD, there are not enough folks that can or will pay premium price for out of date software.  Since we supported dopus back in the day now would be a good time for them to give us something back.

@thread,

I stand corrected, Dr Greg Perry is now responding to requests to buy DOPus Magellen.  The previous attempt by me was answered with directions to the new owners of the Amiga version, which are not currently set up to sell the Amiga version for some reason.  Here is the reply I received this morning in response to yesterdays request.

"The Amiga pages of our web site is for historic reasons only and has not
functioned (like the Amiga) for some 9 years.
(http://www.gpsoft.com.au/amiga/AmigaIndex.html)

Yes you can still buy the last DOpus Magellan 5.82 version from us but only
by special quote. The price is Australian Dollars $65.00 for electronic
delivery via LHA archive."

I don't like his statement that the Amiga died 9 years ago, mine still work very well thank you.  I also agree that the price is a bit high for an unsupported product, but I will probably buy it anyway, because I am against using pirated keyfiles or registration numbers.

If anyone knows where an electronic copy of the docs can be found, let me know.

Edit: There are good tutorials for DOpus 5 on the webpage noted above.
How are you helping the Amiga community? :)

They have. I paid a LOT more for this when it was still "officially" available.

At the end of the day, the Amiga is a niche market, which means prices will always be high.

So what does this version have that 5.11 doesn't?
Maybe interested in upgrading myself.

It is a shame that there is absolutely no mention of the Amiga on his website and there is no way to purchase a download of the Amiga version with a keyfile.

Well, maybe not on the website but the About window of DOpus for Windows mentions Amiga...

Shouldn't Guru Meditation be the ones getting any money for this, seeing as they bought the rights some time back? If GPSoft are willing to take money they should fix any remaining bugs and update a few features, like getting PNG icons to work.

@AndrewBell

Yes, I am wondering about the role of the GuruMeditation too. Unfortunately it seems they email address doesn't work.

Btw. PNG icons already work in Magellan. You need to install AfA_OS, though.

I'd prefer to have DOpus patched and brought up to date.
