looking at the pics, I don't think it would have worked at all.

I could be wrong, but it appears there's tracks corroded completely through.

bit late now, but I would have tested it before removing the ic :p

tin the pins on the IC to clean them ;)

don't put massive blobs of solder on them though :p

Btw when looking at the pics can your trained eye see any pcb damage I need to repair?

its too hard to tell in the pics.

a lot of the tracks look discoloured, it could just be the coating on the board, or it could be the track under the coating...

the 3.1 Rom I got is DOA! :p

try cleaning the pins, or plugging and unplugging it a few times.

Mine didn't work at first either, removed and replaced, and it worked, the next day it didn't work again... did the same thing, and its worked ever since.

how was it actually packed? from what you've said, I take it the foam was wrapped in foil first? but it had gotten mashed in transit?

mine was just stuck in a block of foam, but fortunately worked.

So it really didn't work :p chip could be bad?

try replacing the three electrolytic caps in a row, should be one for R,G and B ;)

if that doesn't work, measure the six resistors between those capacitors and the DB23 connector, once again, 2 resistors on each of the video lines ;)

edit: R1, R2, R3 and R9, R10, R12 I do believe.

47uF should be ok, or else you can swap em around and see if a different colour goes bad? ;)

edit: data sheet has 15uF on it ;)
