We will miss the ugly brown one.
-
Awww... shucks. NOT!
Had to Google what a 'Zune' was as I had forgotten. "ugly brown one"... sorry, but couldn't help but think of another shit stain from the M$ annals.
-
I thought you were talking about Aros' GUI toolkit, the MUI clone "Zune". Thankfully it's just some unpopular Micro$oft crap.
-
I can't say I have ever seen one. Not even in a shop.

Same here.

Was a great device, actually better than the ipod. But ppl are blinded by anything Apple, a shame as my Sony MP3 player has more options and better sound.
The Apple marketing isteam engine powers on.

For a minute there I thought some legendary jazz musician had died, glad to know it's just a piece of MickySoft crap... :D

My sony Ericsson W995 Walkman phone is probably the single best bit of kit I have ever had.
Absolutely essential.
-
I had an 80 GB Zune, second edition, not the shitty brown ones. Was a super piece of kit, loved it, but it died after 10 months and I just went to an iPhone.
The little HD from the Zune is now in my UAE rig, lol.

Zune for Windows 7 phone rocks.... I'd go without music if I had to use that god awful piece of dung they call itunes. I realize though we were talking of older hardware of which I have no idea.
Its bad enough on apple products but the real joy is using the Windows version.... hmm, let's cripple it so bad and make it real flaky to make OSX look better.... sad.
I'm taking some high-level CAD classes right now and when one guy asked if there was a Mac version the whole class of Engineers erupted in laughter. :)

I agree. I palmed my iPhone off onto my wife and bought a Windows 7 phone instead. Using Zune was a breath of fresh air compared to the pain of iTunes.
I never used Zune hardware, but the software is very user-friendly and functional. Try and drag an AVI movie onto your iPhone using iTunes and then drag an AVI movie onto your Windows 7 phone using Zune...

Great phone :) Sony getting together with Ericsson was a good move, loved the walkman phone idea.

Yeah iPod, especially the pre iPod Touch had awful sound quality so only a tone deaf fashionista fool would buy it....but then fools bought Win 95/98/ME/VISTA/7 in droves believing it was all 'cutting edge' 'best available' so really I can neither feel sorry for Apple's pathetic OSX infiltration into desktop market or Microsoft's failed infiltration into the MP3 player market :)
If they both went bust overnight and a few other co

Funny, I hear Sony have improved recently, but the last time I used one of their MP3 Walkmans (a sleek, little rounded black type thing) I needed their proprietary software on my PC. And I know the iPod needs it too, but make no mistake, Sony's software was hideous, useless, slow, and needed to transcode everything to Sony's ATRAC format before sending to the player. There was no way I could possibly use it as my everyday audio player on the PC. Since that awful experience I have never considered buying another Sony player. Again, I know the iPod needs iTunes, but the way it's done is so much better, smoother, easier... And as a player, iTunes is good enough that I use it on Windows without even owning an iPod!

The Zune is dead ??
I do remember when it was announced (everybody had a good laugh that day).
I also remember that it was claimed to been launched, but personally I've never seen evidence that would support that.
I really thought it had been quitely moothballed a year ago or so ....
-
Creative have some of the best sounding mp3 players out there.
I have had my Zen vision M for 4 years and and it is awesome.
As A music consumption device the Zune HD was miles ahead of the iPod. However everyone wants their MP3 players to do eveything under the sun these days and no one is ever going to catch up with Apple on the App store front

Kinect is the biggest/quickest selling consumner item in history having sold over 10 million units since launch (averaging about 135,000 a day), which is darn impressive for something that only has a market for one device. Even iPad/Iphone, etc. cant touch it. Anyway, point of this is that I strongly doubt that something that Im pretty sure was only a myth in Zune (I jest, but Ive never seen one) being put to rest is hardly going to stop Microsoft.
Theyve simply changed focus for portable devices.
-
@ Fishy_Fiz
Whatsa Kinect ???
(PS: they sell at least that many toilet rolls (10 Miliilion) in the USA alone on a daily basis... :))
-
This Zune is still available and selling well.

I haven't met anyone in real life who owned one. Plenty of ipods but nowadays, most people just use their phone around here. I like my ipod but mp3 playing is such a fundamentally simple technology that there's little reason lugging around multiple devices these days.

Only time seen zune is on the xbox 360 for playing video have no choice but to use it
Works okay to play vids of the xbox live
Prefer Ps3 way doing things though
Actually of topic the ps3 browser got alot better last update was bit nasty before.
Still not the best though not sure what linux software they use or there on sony one

Zune is dead, Kin phone is dead, Windows Mobile is dead. Windows Phone 7 is next.

Microsoft has a good understanding of the enterprise, but they tend to be dodgy when it comes to consumer stuff.

Actually, I read somewhere that WinMo 6.5 outsold WindowsPhone 7 in the last quarter (though in fairness to MS, this is mostly due to enterprise that is very reluctant to buy new, unproven technology.)

Hmm. Of course, this news wasn't on the Apple Fanboy Network so I'm sure you asshats can't believe it.

yeah you know.. the only reason to dislike MS products is by being in love with apple.

That and Windows 7 phones need better advertising plus a few bug fixes.
My LG phone has the "end call" button right where my earlobe rests on the screen and I suspect it has disconnected several of my calls. The rear speaker seems to have a life of its own at times and a few calls have insisted on using it and refuse to switch to "normal" mode and then I've had lots of incidences of calls refusing to end and I've had to switch the phone off and restart it. I think enough time has now passed for LG/MS to push an update to the users to fix these issues.

@Darrin
I hope they help you but they have now changed direction and partnered with Nokia screwing all their current Windows Phone 7 partners in the process. Will your phone be updated? Who knows at this point. The current TV Ads in the USA are some of the worst I have ever seen.

Don't let Nokia hear you say that!!!

The hardware may be dead, but Zune is basically just a front end, and so will doubtless live on on Nokia hardware since they sold their soul to Redmond.

I'll keep my fingers crossed. I keep checking for updates, but I keep getting "My Phone is up-to-date" with software version 7.0. :(

I highly doubt this given that Nokia have chosen it as the replacement for symbian on their phones. No shock there given its an ex mircrosoft walla making these decisions.

I'm just guessing but the 1 billion dollars they will be getting from M$ might have also helped them make the decision.
:)
But what about HTC, LG, Dell Etc, they are feeling kind of stupid right now hitching their wagon to WinPhone 7 then Nokia gets an even sweeter deal.
-
Zune thee does not have to die alone, more crap that M$ killed off.

Nah, they've got Android... It probably costs them little to add a Win7phone to their range... :)

I like my Zune. Didn't really give a rat's behind when it was first released, but my daughter bought one so eventually I tried it out then bought a used one of my own. Love it for podcasts and music and my youngest watches movies on it when we travel. I suppose when it dies in the future I'll just move on the the next thing... whatever that is. My wife is stating to ask about an ipad.

Looks like major trouble in Windows Phone 7 land too. Its user-base is pissed.

Interesting point of view from someone in the UK.

Could Windows Phone 7 eventually go the way of the Zune?
