If we're speaking of running these applications on Amigas, I agree, 68k versions would be pointless, only PPC native ones would have sense.

That was what I was pointing out, a 68k original Amiga wouldn't have the power to run such applications.

It might be interesting for those using Amithlon/WinUAE, though.

Yes agreed, here I have a PC running Amithlon sitting next to my G5 iMac and I must say that the Amithlon machine is very fast indeed. Makes me wonder what OS4 would be like if it were similar to Amithlon running on PC hardware? When Amithlon first came out I thought it was the right direction to go.....

You can want whatever you like, but the fact is the apps don't just go port themselves. The $10k Mozilla bounty (it's Mozilla, not Firefox) has been there for ages now, and nothing has happened. This goes to show that such small amount of money is not going to be enough to take on such a giant project. Make that 10x and then it might happen, assuming skilled enough coders are still around and interested. Even at $100k it'd be a bargain, considering the work hours required.

My intention is to purchase an AmigaNG, such as Sam or Moana. Or if I could get an A1200 w/ PPC accelerator cheap enough.  :-D

I agree, these programs should be targeted for the newer machines. But also I would think that some of the code could be re-written to optimize, making it faster.

As for using these programs on Linux, I would prefer not to have to dual boot. Prefer AmigaOS...

AmiDev-C++ runs on the PC. Nice, but I'd rather have an Amiga hosted port.

My goal in this thread is to eliminate the PC or Linux from daily use and only use Amiga.

BTW, if an Amiga program is similar and better, I'd prefer that. Commercial, shareware or freeware.

Example: Dev-C++ or ? I seem to recall something about CubeIDE or something.

Is there an office type suite made already for Amiga that not everyone is aware of?

I bet everyone who complained runs Windows MSN and Office2007. But it is so cool to have this internet-personality ala 1997 "I hate M$ I am so cool OMFG WTF LOL". Wake up it is not 1997, it is 2007.

I don't use MSN, but I use Office every day.  OpenOffice and Abiword are decent for free offerings, but they don't match up at all when it comes to professional use.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

I do not hate M$, it presently allows me to have an Amiga. (WinUAE + AmiKit). All props to the creators!

As I am able to play games fom the classic Amiga, I will also keep a pc for games that will never be available for Amiga.
Since it is overclocked, my cooling fans make enough noise that it sounds like a jet taking off. That's why I would prefer to use a newer Amiga as it will be fast enough AND quiet!   :-D

BTW, there is a M$ replacement in development called ReactOS. Looks promising... http://www.reactos.org/

how about for 68k machines...

Something like

MS Office 95 Pro/Lotus Ami Pro etc
IE v5/Netscape 5.

those two programs run ok on low end hardware (I should know I put them on P1 laptops I sell for peanuts)

Funny thing is OpenOffice is a helluva lot slower than MS Office 2002/XP Pro I find aswell but anyway whatever is written would be best targeted @ OS4 IMO too.

As for what I would like, would be nice if something like Colin Mcrea 3 or the WRC games from the PS2 were ported, with a decent graphics card and an 800mhz processor surely this is possible with some tight coding (the PC version of CMR 3 was horribly inefficient and unoptimised bah!)
