This week on 10 Minute Amiga Retro Cast, I am introducing a brand new product to the Amiga Community! The ROMulator from Kipper2K and Amiga on the Lake
I just watched this (wasn't 10 minutes, did it?
)
I could not comment for some reason, so here are my 3 cents:
Here is some issues:
1) Distributing from the U.S. only with a steep price tag will cause Europe's customs to jump in.
2) The steep price tag.
3) The form factor being incompatible with MegiChip by default, because of a giant MPU used to, hm, play mod files?
I don't disagree with you, really. I understand that shipping from the USA can be pretty expensive, but Amiga on the Lake apparently helped fund the project, so I guess it is OK that they want to sell it first. (If they ever put it up for sale)
The price is not too bad considering it is an ARM chip on there! and a Meg of RAM. Everyone deserves to make a buck, too. Putting months of time and effort and building costs into a project should net a guy more than a friendly pat on the back.
The big chip runs the show, and it would be hard to reduce the form factor. I bet there are not too many MegaChips out there. My solution cost me $2.95 at my local electronics store, and works 100%. We Amigans do love to modify things, eh?
Ya... 10 minutes... That does not happen often!
