image manager button

What's that triple-wide "manager" button that you see when you create a new message for? I clicked on it and it seems to be some sort of image manager, but what images does it manage? The gadgets are empty, except for the "close" gadget, which is also the only one that does anything.

Would be neat if it was for me to upload images to messages. Is it?

Looks like a residual function from the default Xoops config. I suspect it'll be removed/activated once the site upgrade is fully complete.

@weirdami

The Image Manager is essentially there -- as you say -- as remnant of the default install.  It's intent is to allow admins (and configurably) users to upload images for everyone to use in a situation where the same image would be used on a recurring basis (say for example a site logo).

We will never allow users to upload images to the Image manager because --  plainly stated -- there are a couple of users that cannot be trusted to act like adults.  The last thing I need is to find myself in a situation where I'm spending all day trying to remove pornographic images from the Web site's editor.

Same reason I don't see us ever putting up a Humor area in the coffee shop.  It's not the 99% of users who understand what's unacceptable, it's the 1% of morons who don't care what the rules are.

Right now truthfully, while I can think of situations on other sites where the image manager would come in handy, I can't think of a reason we'd use it at all.
