The 3 will probably provide a 1.5Ghz CPU which will allow us full speed emulation of most Sega Dreamcast and Sony PSP titles. This will also give us access to 68000 emulation, as well as improve a few other things.

Likewise OpenGL beta drivers were recently released for the Linux desktop environment as well as for games...

Pi is my new Amiga/retro computer  hobbie... one I can afford.

As for the Pi 3...

...there are also these while you wait...

Not as cheap of course, but very capable!

Exactly, I want to replace my old ARM cluster with something smaller :)
Plus various other uses, including one in each Amiga to act as "service companion", provinding local proxying, wifi etc.

That's what I kept thinking was that if I still owned an Amiga, I'd stick a Pi inside of it for additional features...
...using it for the internet wasn't something I'd thought of. Great solution! :)

Samba would of course be awesome as well!

There is also the Orange Pi, I just ordered an Orange Pi Plus :-)

Does this work with RetroPi and Raspian?

THat's something I remember reading, they said that they kind of wished that they'd upgraded the gfx chip with the Pi 2, and probably would in the future...

Yes, fast, reliable wireless connectivity that supports all encryptions and simply can be upgraded by replacing a usb stick. IPv6 - the Pi can do it and act as data-proxy for a few protocols. Samba indeed, or how about implementingan amiga netfs-server for *ix? :) Hooking the Pi serial console to a serial port on the amiga for console on the Pi (and provide PPP-login, if the Amiga doesn't have ethernet), streaming media to the Pi, video, audio.. Install a browser on the Pi use it via RDesktop from the Amiga... all in all, always have a little linux server around inside your Amiga

There is PlipBox that does PLIP using Amiga parallel port - I do wonder if it can be possible to skip the entire arduino-ethernet bit and have Amiga communicate with Pi over the parallel port more directly. Of course, there is voltage differences one would need to take care of.

I'd say you've been thinking about this pretty deeply!!!
If you do it, you HAVE to make a video to document the moment in Amiga history! ;)

With only days to go until launch, vBulletin now reveal some of the main news with the Raspberry Pi Model B 3, which may be both faster processor that supports wireless connection.

Just over a year after the launch of Raspberry Pi Model B 2 is the sequel to the input for launch leap day on 29 February - exactly four years after the first model was available for order. The details around the Raspberry Pi Model B 3, however, has so far been shrouded in mystery.

Now vBulletin reveal some of the main news with Raspberry Pi 3. First of all, enkortsdatorn a faster quad-core processor at 1.2 GHz, up from 0.9 GHz predecessor. Whether it be about the Broadcom BCM2836 with elevated clock speeds, or a completely new creation is not clear.

In addition to higher performance will be also integrated support for wireless connectivity in the form of Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, which is probably the main reasons for the relatively high introductory price of 499 crowns.

Pics A Raspberry Pi 3 with onboard Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Bluetooth Low Energy (LE) support has emerged today.

The Model B Raspberry Pi 3 will be the first in the family of tiny cheap-and-cheerful ARM-powered computers to feature builtin wireless networking. For previous models, owners have had to make do with wired Ethernet, USB Wi-Fi adapters, or Ethernet-to-wireless gadgets. Having wire-free networking built into the little single-board computer will be a boon.

Confirmation of the Pi 3's existence comes from these lab results submitted by the Raspberry Pi Foundation to US communications watchdog the FCC. The documents show the new hardware complies with radio standards, and the regulator has approved the device for use.

The Model B's schematics, block diagrams, parts lists, and other blueprints have been withheld from public view at the request of the Raspberry Pi designers, so the exact specifications of the new system aren't yet known. More details are expected to be revealed next week.

From the submitted dossier, the Model B will use a single chip antenna. The hardware was tested in Hull, UK.

The Pi 3 Model B otherwise looks pretty much like 2015's quad-core 32-bit ARM Cortex-A7-based Raspberry Pi 2: it sports a familiar Broadcom system-on-chip, HDMI port, SD card slot, wired Ethernet socket, and 40 general-purpose IO pins, all in a credit-card form factor.

Here are some photos of the new hardware:

And here it is: http://thepihut.com/products/raspberry-pi-3-model-b

Thanks G, I got 2!

For the note, this will allow you to run a LOT more PSP games than the Pi 2, and will also make many Dreamcast games playable. On that note, the frame rate on Fallout (under DOSBOX) should just be enough to make it worth playing now, and I imagine that some of the early FPS's should run better now too.

Naturally UAE4ARM should be good enough to run Alien Breed 3D on now, at least I'd think. If not, then close!

"Rumors from trusted source"

Yup, cos that always turns out to be true.   Bearing in mind we've had many Pi models... this "story" is very much like my breaking news

"Rumours from a trusted source [I'm from UK where we spell properly!] indicate that Apple will launch an iPhone [Insert Number] following the success of the iPhone [Insert Number -1]"

How about some info.. at least to give us all a giggle ;)

EDIT: Have a look at Rpi forums where they clamped down on meaningless speculation

Clears throat. ;)

At $35, I have NO complaints in regards to what the Pi 2 does, be it as an emulation station or as a PC. It performs, by leaps and bounds, better than I ever imagined. Now with the Pi 3, I look forward to enjoying more PSP games that I could previously while over clocked, not to mention Dreamcast.

Raspian of course will be even better, and yes it is no desktop replacement, but then again I'd have to be on crack to expect as much. Again, it does exactly what it sets out to do, and a whole lot more. I'm excited to receive these new units and see how far I can push them. It's fun... sort of like pushing old hardware, but cheaper!!! So much cheaper!!!

I guess this means that the Pi3 is now a better credit card sized computer than its competitors?

Pretty much, I mean there for faster alternatives, but for more money, but the competition always goes for gfx chip sets that are not supported by the Linux Distros for the Pi, such as Raspian and Retropie.

So ya, Pi is the only way to go to make a long story short, unless you know how to code...

Seems that the video core the PIs build puts the limit of RAM in the actual 1GB. OTOH, 2GB counterparts (like ODroid models) are pretty efficients as the RAM use under ARM is far less than with bigger processors.

I would be extremely happy with a revision with a mere 2GB, really, really happy :-)

I have not ran into a situation with my Pi or any of the software or games that I use where in I felt I needed any more than 1Gb or RAM.
