ahh infograemes, I remember that now...couldn't be bothered to actually load the site, wouldn't want to help their stats you know....

though I don't have Alexa.....or have any idea why
someone would use its toolbar over other ones...
Alexas is the number one source around the world
for independent stats about web site traffic.

They are the largest provider of this kind of service...
though they admit to possible skewing by region
and windows only status of their tools....

still noone else is doing it better....Alexa was founded
by the same people who did amazon.com, and they
have over 200 terabytes of info in their archive...
which btw, they donate all of this to the internet archive for preserving the everychanging internet, in its historical context.

Heck, maybe even these words will be saved.
And someday discovered a hundred million years
from now by an historian.

WOW, good thing I am wearing clean underwear.

@Warface

Alexa is a spyware/adware component that gets installed on most peoples system without them ever even knowing where it came from (like most spyware)  It always gets installed with Gator (more crap spyware) and maybe with other things too.

Download Ad-aware 6.0 and run on your PC (if you have one) and you'll be amazed at how much junk is running from your registry and startup.  I've seen it go as high as 700+ components on some peoples systems.

Well, some numbers that may be of interest; the number of pages that link to a site, according to Google:

www.amiga.com 2430
www.aminet.net 2060
www.amiga.org 1310
www.amigaworld.net 552
www.ann.lu 510
www.amiga-news.de 444
www.morphos-news.de 220
amiga.czex.com 212
www.amigart.com 208
www.morphzone.org 72
www.phinixi.com 46
www.flyingmice.com/squid/moobunny/amiga 20

And outside Amiga circles:

www.google.com 252000
www.microsoft.com 136000
www.apple.com 88100
www.slashdot.org 39700
www.redhat.com 32200
www.osnews.com 4910
www.bebits.com 4050
www.atari.com 2390
www.atari.org 844
www.c64.org 402

Of course, there are several problems with these numbers: the time the website has been online has an effect, and also some searches brought up links from the site in question itself. And of course, the number of links is only indirectly related to the number of visitors. But I suppose the numbers still tell something.

Just to put the record straight... Hasbro USED to own the Atari trademark (after Atari of course), under whom's title they released some second rate clones of classic 70's and 80's arcade games before eventually selling the trademark to Infogrames.
Caught a bolt of lightning... Cursed the day he let it go!

thought there was something about hasbro in this regard.
anyways, they only use it for the name. UT and Unreal isn't even made by infogrames, but Digital Entertainment.

... guess everyone wants a cut...

WHOLLY CRAP!!  I just did a link search on www.AmigaSource.com (38 links by the way) and the third link listed was none other than the former Amiga Web Directory.  I'm listed under their LINKS section.  I had no idea...

HOW IRONIC!!

They are the whole reason I do what I do after they pulled the plug on the Amiga community.

I took a look at amigasource the other day, good to see a new link directory...

all I'm going to say about cucug's AWD, is that I'll remember it fondly...

good to see a new link directory, I remember fondly seeing new links added everyday, and how exciting it was to see the visible proof of constant activity in this very much 'alive' community.

which reminds me...
Remember all the 'amiga is dead' worries....it was a constant theme a few years ago....many many a post was an 'amiga is dead' post as members left the community, always tryign to take as many with them as they could.

It's wonderful to see the community on a growth phase (almost) again....even without the actual growth, very few people proclaiming the platform 'dead' anymore....that is quite pleasant.

Arggh,  Alanis Morisette! Who needs chinese water torture when you have a chanteuse like her! I shut a cat's tail in the door the other day, and that was more soothing to the ear!

UGH, if they didn't send data, there would be no statistics.

Alexa is about the only publicly available source for determining the relative popularity of websites...precisely because it does send the data back.

sure, ok, as an individual user, some people may not wish to use it, but as someone observing the popularity of websites, its a useful tool, and important to put things in the historical context, if one is to preserve information about the internet as it once existed.  Certainly most websites will not provide this information, and even if they would, trying to collect it in some kind of voluntary manner is impossible just from a logistics perspective....

Alexa is useful for web site traffic stats at a very high level, useful for internet historians...whether it is useful from the perspective of the individual user...well, that goes back to the toolbar itself..clearly some like it, some don't.

I don't suggest anyone purposely try to fool the stats by installing Alexa and visiting their fav' websites....

I can't se how Atari can ebat amiga.
Atari only release games.
The name have been bought, (a qualified guess) just to have an old and know name.
Could be the future for amiga.. maybe... I don't hope though.
Amiga should do what they have always done.. OS and HW :-)
Not some silly gamepack, which nobody wants anyway

Yeah I know,
that's gotta be one of her most irritating songs!
And the ironic thing is, what she sings about in that song isn't ironic at all!  :-D
