AmiWest 2020
« on: October 05, 2020, 02:22:34 AM »
This is our 23rd AmiWest show celebrating 35 years of Amiga! Many creative people have attended AmiWest over these many years of annual gathering. This creativity of the group continues to be a major feature of our show.

Our attendees run the gamut from computer designers and other IT pros to Amiga users who just enjoy the platform. Whether it's game play, productivity elegance, system configurability, or just doing things differently, the people who attend AmiWest are in a very relaxed mood. Indeed, one of our attendees says it's the best annual event on his entire social calendar.

So come to AmiWest and get acquainted with a very creative group of people. Everyone is willing to share their Amiga experience and listen to yours as well. Whomever attends, we extend a relaxed AmiWest welcome to one and all.

So remember: AmiWest 2020 and associated events will be October 24 & 25, 2020 at the Holiday Inn Express, 2224 Auburn Blvd., Sacramento, CA. Make your plans to attend now. If you've attended before, bring one other person who is new to the show. If this will be your first time, welcome to the show! See our website at amiwest.net for the latest information and watch this blog for breaking news about the show. See you in three weeks!

I attended for the first time last year and had a fantastic time. It had been a long-standing wish to be able to go there.

I must say I'm glad we (me and my wife) made the plans for last year and not this one.

I wish those of you who can (and dare) attend this year a really good time - and TAKE CARE. We want AmiWest to happen again for many years to come, which requires you fantastic people in SACC and whoever else makes it happen to stay safe and healthy.

Hope to see you again some other year!

Best regards,

Niels

Our venue is equipped with the latest in participant health measures. We do understand that some have concerns about attending an on-site event. Our venue is conducting business daily with all required safety measures in place. We will even be providing a safety measure of our own that only on-site attendees will receive. (More on that later)

Announcing David Pleasance to speak at Amiwest 2020, Oct 24th

Sacramento, CA. Amiwest 2020, the longest-running North American Amiga only computer show is happening this weekend, Oct 24th and 25th.

We are very excited to announce David Pleasance as a speaker. David Pleasance is an iconic figure in the Amiga Universe as the former MD of Commodore UK. David has been busy in recent years with the release of his book “Commodore -- The Inside Story” and has announced a collaboration with Amiwest regular Trevor Dickinson called “From Vultures to Vampires.” This will be David’s first Amiwest appearance and will join live on the Amiwest broadcast.

With the global pandemic, there has been a change in the format both in-person and for the Amiwest broadcast. For those attending in person, the full complement of COVID-19 procedures is in place. Given the restrictions on the number of people allowed on the show floor, the Amiwest organizers decided to greatly expand the Amiwest broadcast efforts.

This year's broadcast will start at 10 AM Pacific time and feature 10 speakers. We are expecting new product announcements and lots of content for every member of the Amiga community. It will truly be the Amiga event of 2020.

See you online!

As there are no news to be found i'd like to start mentioning whats being said yesterday:

IComp has Picasso96 v3.0 ready and out to get downloaded, with support for screen dragging and Cybervision/BVision cards included first time ever.
Summary by Thor: http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=1436971&postcount=123
The ACA1260 is still delayed as features are added and it seems the focus will be on the 040 version because of the shortage or insane prices for 060 cpus.
IComp also produced new dsub23 connectors and will create a bugfixed Buster12 chip with Dave Haynie!

ACube will produce the Tabor A1222 prototypes and Tabor is no longer called by its code name anymore.
Also the sound driver is ready and working. The ethernet driver is ready too.

AmigaOS4 updates and bugfixes are plentiful but there is some controversy how to distribute them: new disc or other methods, and date is ambigious too.

Yes - SSolie mentioned this as a point in the ExecSG Roadmap: A1222 DMA channels for audio driver.

So work has to be done in the kernel (or wherever) before Lyle can implement usage of DMA in the driver. At least IIUC.

Best regards,

Niels
