Need Help With 040 Cpu To Install On Warp Engine
« on: August 30, 2006, 01:43:15 AM »
Hello All,

I have Warp Engine without CPU, I have just got my hands on 040 but I ain't sure if the CPU will work as it's not mentioned on The Amiga Hardware Book as Amiga CPU.

The writting on the CPU MC68EC040RC25 I know EC means no MMU,I don't know what RC stands for (no FPU?) and 25 means 25 MHz?

Would it work in the Warp Engine.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance Merv Stent

Umm, no.    The RC is the packaging designator.  RC = pin grid array (PGA), gold lead finish.

BTW, the EC040 has no MMU or FPU. The LC040 has MMU but no FPU.
Time to move on.  Bye Amiga.org.  :(

I would really like to get my hands on a Warp Engine card with or without a CPU.  Just curious where you found that?

PM me if you would.

EDIT:  I am not sure if an 060 would work on an 040 card just because of support circuitry (someone else could chime in on this)... however, if the circuitry is the same for both the 040 and the 060, it could probably be made to work.  I know you would need to change the oscillator (clock) crystal to provide the higher clock frequencies for the 060 chip, but I am not sure what else you would need to do.  I am curious if this could be done as well.
