Amiga Emulator For Playstation 2
« on: August 23, 2006, 12:39:18 AM »
Hi to all,
I am an old amiga freak that is presently working in Mongolia. It was imposible to get my a1200 from Serbia to here so i bought PS2 (cheper than new {bleep}y notebook). I have search over the net for some good emulator and there is UAE 0.8.25 by OLE. Emulator is slow expecialy when sound is ON, and i was wondering is there any other and better emulator? And how come that PSP can emulate amiga at fullspeed and ps2 can't?

Cheers!

I believe the psp has a faster cpu and also the psp is much easier to code for which means that most homebrew there will be more tuned for perfomance.

But the psp dosent emulate at fullspeed now or does it? The last version i tried was still quite a bit slower than a real a500.

A PSP  Faster than a Playstation 2?  I HIGHLY doubt that.

But anyway...there is an AMIGA Emulator for Playstation 2??????  where???

whats it called?

I know there is one for PSP and X-Box.............as far as I am concerned a UAE for PS2 is much more important that for X-Box.especially when the PS3 is released......the UAE will be even more speeded up
CD32 is actually the best Amiga ever made by Commodore!...

why would you doubt that?  the ps2 is a very old box (2000ish) the psp was released in 2005.  my psp can run up to 333mgz, don't think the ps2 was that fast.  just becasue it BIGGER does not mean it's faster...

The cpu itself is faster, but the graphic chip of the ps2 outperforms the psp, but that makes sense as the screen is also much smaller on the psp. All emulators i have tried on the ps2 runs noticable faster on the psp.

@all
For official titles released on UMD the PSP is locked to 222Mhz. The homebrew scene has managed to unlock it so that there apps can be run at 333Mhz.

That's still only 33Mhz faster than the PS2 (300Mhz).
The PSP is severely hampered by it's very narrow bus which it shares for memory access with it's GPU, plus the PS2 has two vector units (VU0 & VU1) whereas the PSP only has a vector co-processor (like an extended fpu).

In theory the PS2 should be much faster but see below...

@viviancer
Are you running UAE through PS2 Linux? If so that would account for the performance difference between other peoples PSPs and your PS2 version. The PSP version is a native app that directly accesses the hardware.

ooh gotta go, darned meetings..

viviancer,

An Amiga emulation can't be fast with the 300mhz cpu of the ps2..also will be slow on the 333mhz of the psp

at least a 700-800 mhz cpu is needed for a descent amiga emulation
so...you need a PC or a xbox or xbox360 to get a descent speed

bye, Laser

It depends on the type of cpu too. Though i mostly agree about the fact that neither the psp or the ps2 will handle emulating a amiga at 100% speed.

I am runing UAE from boot cd. No linux is involved. I thought that 300MHZ of PS2 is actualy a much more than Intel or Amd.Creator of UAE for PS2 probably did not ivolved GPU power. I hope someone will create something better. Some games are almoust playable but without sound and frame skipping.

Cheers!
