Ugghhh what a mess. That motherboard looked nice!

So Joe I couldn't help but notice there was a referenc to a romance with a female chip desinger...sounds like a TV movie of the week! Here you have a situation with a market that needed attention and things just couldn't fall into place.

If anyone remembers video editing on Macs or PCs around 1995-1998 it was a real pain unless you hade like the BEST media 100 or Avid system. Here was a good low cost system that just died.

I wish you had told me about you working with them at AmiWest !  They tried to rip me off for over a $1000 for a burner I bought from them but never got. They billed my credit card before itn was even ordered. I went down to the store from Santa Rosa to get the $ and he was on a cruise !  And then at the first AmiWest- I am the founder-he had the nerve to show and tried to set up a booth outside the show . I had given him the option of being at the show but he wanted it in LA and I said NO.
scum he is and will be

Due to money owed to me that I doubted I would ever see I left AG way before all the BoXer drama started. Looking back I made the right choice but never got the funds. Sounds like I'm not the first or the last that had to deal with the stress of AG's creative financing.

I had a friend that worked at AG around that time.  I actually went with AG to the Newtek show in L.A. and we actually were the "Amiga" booth at the time.  I saw Paul Nolen working on a retargetable VT interface.  He wanted to show it to Newtek and see if they would pay for it.  I guess they did not.  Paul had the toaster switcher working on the CGX screen.  Pretty cool stuff.  There was also a Toaster/Flyer kiosk that they were demonstrating at the show. They seemed to be selling a lot of alpha systems at the time.  Seemed that the A4000 was hard to get but demand was high.  I guess they were getting A4000T systems from Quickpack with that HUGE 060 board they made.  I still have my AMIGA name badge from the show.  There was a Newtek party after the show with an open bar.  Fun times.  We all had such hope. Little did we know.

Am I the only one who thinks why should I care to read 5 or 6 pages of history of something when nothing ever materialized? Anyone can plan things but if nothing ever comes of it...

Why do I care to read the history of vaporware?

If you don't care, don't read it.  People who were there are probably a bit more interested.  It's not only the history of a product that didn't make it, but of the people who were trying to.  It's just wrong to not care about Amiga people.

Its late for me - I gotta quit typing now...

Cheers for sharing that with us Joe.

I remember drolling over those reports of the BoXeR all those years ago and reading that strange post from Mick where he bid farewell to the project.

Yep really cool. Sad part is that there was a demand for systems in the Video end of the markey...as  The Flyer worked...and it was stable...! Jeez what a mess.

@joetee

Thanks for an interesting read. I didn't know that about AG, I thought they were one of Amiga Incs victims.

I really look forward to a write up buy you from that period. Or if you share it through a magazine or book (Amiga Future or the unreleased 2nd ed of the commodore book :))

What state was the boxer when it was abandoned? Was it just plastic, led and silicone. Or did it show a kickstart screen or even boot?

I have to stop writing now, because I'm getting distracted by Crom00 avatar looking at me... LOL

Does anyone remember the beautiful multipage full color AG ads in Amiga World and VTU magazines? One of the dirty little secrets about them is most of them were never paid for and caused those magazines to go out of business.

So how much would it cost to finish up the boxer and do a production run?
I don't have the cash for this... I'm jus askin' is all...

Seems like one hell of a product as it seems the Amiga chipset was to be implemented in an ASIC solution.

I'd like to know the answer to that too, maybe it was almost finished. Even so much time after, it probably would have some buyers.

The product is still owned by someone, I wonder if it's MT or AG. If it's AG it seems very unlikely that they will give it to the community.

If Joe or Bill knew that a "good guy" owned the ASIC design for the amiga custom chipsets, they'd be on them now to have them do something with it - right? :)

+1 for having the boXer remains in a product today. But not at any cost.

With products like MiniMig, FPGA Arcade, Natami, and the like generating buzz this is certainly interesting as it also seemed to be far along...

I can understand the ANGST of those involved and not wanting to continue with the project. I had no idea Anti Gravity didn't pay for those ads....

Jeez...With stories like this I start to think the Amiga really is cursed. That or some conspiracy to keep the platform dead is afoot.

Could it be the Illuminati, FreeMAsons, or Atari Falconers.. lol!
