need help with handscanner
« on: November 08, 2011, 10:28:08 PM »
hi:

-What I want:
-to use my handscanner with my amiga 1200.

-What happened:
-a long time ago I bought an archos external cd drive with its pcmcia connection
and power supply/cord. It worked fine when installing..but I left it on with the power
on and when I turned off my a1200. Next morning, the amiga was fine but the
cd drive never worked anymore and I had to get rid of it.
Fortunately the amiga was good, unfortunately the cd was over.
Later on, I got a used handscanner for my amiga 1200 which was supposed to be
working. It did not work but it was supposed to, I suspect the pcmcia port
might have been damaged. The handscanner uses the pcmcia port.
I use an amiga 1200 with 030/50mhz and 18mb ram.
Any suggestions ?
Is it possible the pcmcia was damaged ?
Is it possible to make the scanner work ?
If the scanner is good..how can I make it work?
If the pcmcia was bad...will getting a new accelerator fix this problem?
I appreciate any advise...
Thank you !!!

to test the hand scanner at all you will probably need to install the drivers for it. more than lilkly it came with some scanning software.. it would helpo to know exactly what hand scanner you have?

If your pcmcia is bad the only fix is a new A1200 motherboard(or repair the exhisting one).

Why in gods name would anyone want to use a hand scanner in this day and age? Those were fine when flatbeds were expensive.

Hi:

@mechy
I am tired now..the hanscanner is packed inside some boxes, so I will
seek it tomorrow to post exact name and brand. Is all legit inside the
box and complete with software and manuals.
It is possible I did not install the drivers (can't remember) so that
might be the reason it did not work, -hopefully that is it-.
Thank you very much for helping me.

@amiduffer
I want the handcanner to scan beautiful pencil drawings to use
in Moviesetter and Disney animation studio. If i can scan my
pencil drawings - I make pretty nice ones-then my 2d animations
in amiga will be superb. I could get digi view with a camera setup,
but my handscanner is paid for and other options might be expensive.
Thank you very much !!!

Are you kidding? People throw them away all the time. I picked up a bad-ass SCSI Epson scanner used in an office for $5. Works like a charm.

I've got various Mikrotek and Mustek scanners (at least 4, all SCSI) that I never got around to test for free to pick up...

unless u got super steady hand and can mopve your hand at constant speed, hand scanners are rubbish , usually with very bad dpi also
