Help me choose my new TV!
« on: March 11, 2007, 01:52:06 AM »
I've done a bit of research of Plasma TV displays by looking through a couple of catalogues, and I've narrowed my choice to 2.

I'm considering either a Sony 101CM LCD TV with HD tuner, with 1366X768 resolution, Bravia engine, HDMI and PC input for AU$3299.

OR

Pioneer 127CM PLASMA, HD tuner, 1365X768, 4000:1 contrast, twin HDMI and PC input. $5499

There are a fair number of differences between them, but there's a sale on now so I'm ready to buy one of the above.

But I'm stuck on which one?

The Pioneer is probably the least gay. I think that's the one for you.

Is there a reason you want to go with a plasma?
Plasmas have a very short lifespan compared to LCD or DLP. Yes DLP and LCD need lightbulb replacement once every two years or so but the display its self will las far longer.
Plasma will loose almost 50% of its brightness within 5 years and the pixels will start to burn out one by one also within 5 years.

old plasmas had problems but newer models are very good on reliability. link

personally i put dlp at the top of the list followed closely by plasma and lcd way in the rear as far as image quality is concerned.
