New turbo cards coming from Individual Computers?
« on: September 12, 2010, 06:24:14 PM »
Guys, check this out:

http://www.amiga-news.de/de/news/AN-2010-09-00024-DE.html

This is unofficial, but looks like Jens will be making new 68030 turbo cards for Amiga 600 and Amiga 1200! Some great news.

I'm betting a PPC would be harder and much more expensive to make.

I'll be interested to see the technical specs. Might be worth the upgrade from the GVP 40MHz 030.

If those prices are right then I can see a fair sized market for a EU99 card for those wanting to use WHDLoad and have an extra speed boost.  Add a Subway and an Indivision and you can have a very nice "wedge" computer at a reasonable cost.

A600 version would be great. I'd definetly buy 1 or 2 if he can keep the target price.

Whilst I currently only own 040 boards, there's nothing wrong with a decent 030 card.

A1200 prototype:

A600 prototype:

(As you can see on the photo, the CPU will definetely have to be soldered to the board to make it fit with Indivision ECS)

I do not get why it has to be soldered, considering all the empty space there is to the left on the card, it looks more like a re-arrangement of the layout is needed. Or simply just a slimmer connector on the Indivision. And on the A1200 version there is no excuse for not having it socketed. And where is the socket for the 68882? My excitement has dwindled, no need to see the doctor just yet :)

EDIT: OK, the A600 card shown is not the end product, but Jens still insists that CPU is soldered, also on A1200 versions, for other reasons, such as warranties, quartz replaced with programmed CPLD etc. Jens doesn't want people to fiddle with it.

My interest gone up.. no need for socket IMHO, just add some mem. In my 060/AGA setup I never run out of mem with 16 MB, I think this one going to have 64?

I need to preorder that A600 version :)

Nothing is set in stone, but it seems like a 64MB model with 28MHz 030 and a 128MB model with a 56MHz 030 are "planned" for now. For A1200 that is. And the price for the low-end one is set to be 99,- euros, and 199,- euros for the high-end one (iirc).

This one is only 32MB and 28MHz 030 if I remember correctly.  For all the models it is still in the blue whether to use fully MMU enabled 68030 or just cheaper 68EC030, the question is whether there is any software around that makes use of the MMU. FPU is out, though. Also the RTC is not on board, but a socket will be present for those who would want one.

I personally would want MMU, at least on the "high end" version, for Linux and NetBSD use. But then I'd also want onboard ethernet :)

Yes, that's the plan for the A600 version. Actually there's talk about 25 MHz. But this is more than enough to make the A600 usable. Of course WHDload comes to mind, maybe some IRC, FTP etc. aswell.

Umm... why? A1200 and A600 can both be fitted easily with a PCMCIA network card.
